Bush Accepts McCain's Ban On Torture
Faced with a certain over-ride if he tried to veto the bill, President
Bush has accepted Sen. John McCains's anti-torture amendment.
This is a major victory for the forces of human decency and Christian
love, and a major defeat for the sadistic and perverted warhawks who
had tried to drag us down to the level of uncivilized savages, on the
pretext that we couldn't protect our Country if we didn't torture our
prisoners.
You can see all the details at
http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ned=us&q=Bush+Mccain+torture&ie=UTF-8&scoring=d
There is still the possibility that the Rumsfeld-Cheney pro-torture
clique will try to bypass or subvert the new law, but there is no
question now that our national policy clearly and forcefully rejects
torture in any form, for any reason.
Congratulations to Congress for waking up and opposing the right-wing,
pro-torture minority, and refusing to go along with yet another bad
policy of the President.
And congratulations to Sen. McCain, for leading the Republican
opposition to torture and facing down our badly-advised Republican
President.
For several months now I have had an anti-torture web page at
http://www.anti-torture.net, and a related discussion group at
http://groups.google.com/group/Anti-Torture-Network. You are invited to
visit both of these, and to join the discussion group if you like.
Blessings to you. May God help us all.
