Bush says language studies vital to security

He says more Americans must learn Arabic, Farsi, Russian
and other 'critical' tongues.
WASHINGTON - President Bush announced plans earlier this
month to boost foreign-language study in the United States,
casting the initiative as a strategic move to better engage
other nations in combating terrorism and promoting freedom
and democracy.
The plans, which represent an expansion of some programs and
the start of a few others, aim to involve children in
foreign-language courses as early as kindergarten while
increasing opportunities for college and graduate school
instruction.
"When Americans learn to speak a language, learn to
speak Arabic, those in the Arabic region will say,
'Gosh, America's interested in us. They care enough to
learn how we speak,'" Bush said.

Why not? When the US invades other countries it helps if you speak the native
language. :0)
Might prevent things like this happening:-
U.S. troops opened fire on a crowded minivan north of Baghdad on Monday,
fearing a car bomb attack, and killed at least three members of the same
family, including a child, the U.S. military and survivors said.
The U.S. army's 3rd Infantry Division confirmed the incident, saying its
troops had opened fire after first trying to wave the minivan to a stop and
then firing warning shots.

Yeah, American children should follow his example -- he speaks two
languages -- Connecticutt American English and really bad Texan. He lies in
both.
