Mistake Prompts Bush Redo
http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/politics/20060406-1105-bush-take2.html
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Cameras were rolling.
Microphones were on. President Bush stepped up
to comment on a Senate compromise on immigration legislation.
Wait. Was it energy or immigration?
Maybe Bush had rising gas prices on his mind when
he said he was pleased that Republicans and Democrats
were working together to get a bipartisan,
comprehensive "energy" bill.
Realizing his mistake, he stopped and called for a Take 2.
"Let me start over," Bush said, standing next to Air Force One.
Bush, often the first to admit that he's not a great orator,
got it right the second time.
"I'm pleased that Republicans and Democrats in the
United States Senate are working together to get a
comprehensive 'immigration' bill," Bush said.
"I want to thank the efforts of those involved in the process. ..."

Big Gain for Rich Seen in Tax Cuts for Investments
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/04/05/business/05tax.html
The first data to document the effect of President Bush's
tax cuts for investment income show that they have
significantly lowered the tax burden on the richest Americans,
reducing taxes on incomes of more than $10 million by an
average of about $500,000.

Americans keep snapping up second homes

* Vacation, investment properties make up 40 percent of 2005 sales
WASHINGTON - Americans bought a record number of second
homes for vacation and investment last year, some 40 percent of
2005 total sales, a trade group said Wednesday.
"On the other hand, investment home sales are likely to decline this
year, in part because of higher interest rates," he added. Still, he
said the long-term outlook for second homes sales was positive
"because more people will be moving into the prime years for
buying a second home."
NAR said 33 percent of 2005 vacation home purchases occurred
in the Midwest, followed by 30 percent in the South, 20 percent in
the West, and 17 percent in the Northeast.
In the category of investment homes, 38 percent were bought in
the South, 24 percent in each of the Midwest and West, and 15
percent in the Northeast.

Jobless rate higher for U.S.-born than immigrants
http://money.cnn.com/2006/04/05/news/economy/jobs_immigrants/index.htm?section=money_topstories
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - The unemployment rate for
immigrants working in the United States fell below
the rate for U.S.-born workers in 2005 for the first time
since the Labor Department started tracking those
numbers a decade ago.
Numbers from the department's Bureau of Labor Statistics
show that unemployment for native-born workers fell to
5.2 percent last year from 5.5 percent in 2004. But the
unemployment rate for those who were born elsewhere sank
to 4.6 percent last year from 5.5 percent the year before.
The strong home-building market, which lifted construction
hiring, and a rebound in travel and hospitality were seen
as among the factors helping immigrant workers, since those
sectors employ a lot of foreign-born workers.

Congress Unites for Illegal Immigrant Deal
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2006/04/06/national/w152329D73.DTL
Putting aside party differences, Senate Republicans and
Democrats coalesced Thursday around compromise legislation
that holds out the hope of citizenship to an estimated 11 million
immigrants living in the United States unlawfully.
"We can no longer afford to delay reform," said
Republican John McCain and [Democrat] Edward M. Kennedy
in a statement that capped weeks of struggle to find common ground.
"I can just about guarantee you we're not going to get
a majority of the House members (to agree) on amnesty
to 10 million people," Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., said
at a news conference. "I am disappointed that apparently
Mr. Frist has caved in to the desires of Democrats, to Kennedy,"
he added.

Tax breaks for the rich, who then go out and invest in real estate,
creating a constuction boom, giving illegal immigrants more jobs,
who then possibly get amnesty and ultimately the right to vote.
See, trickle down tax cuts work, just not for Americans.
As for those of you who didn't get summer homes out of Bush's tax cuts,
well, I hope you like your new 24x7 matrixed jobs and standing
on a street corner waiting for your pimp with the thick accent to
hustle up some benefitless permatemp positions for you.
Foreign competition is good for Americans, because Bush said so.
