Bush: Miers must be confirmed because of her religion
WASHINGTON (Reuters)... "People are going to see why I nominated her
to the bench and she's going to make a great Supreme Court judge,"
Bush told reporters in a picture-taking session with visiting Polish
President Aleksander Kwasniewski.
"People are interested to know why I picked Harriet Miers. They want
to know Harriet Miers' background, they want to know as much as they
possibly can before they form opinions. And part of Harriet Miers'
life is her religion."

She is advertised as a 'born again' Christian: I think we should know what
event in her life was so earthshaking that she was 'born again.' It might
go a ways toward explaining what sort of person she is.
So far I have heard two major points against her. First, she described Bush
as 'the most brilliant person I ever met' which is astoundingly small
minded.
Second, Bush described her as a 'bulldog' which is hardly the fair and
balanced temperament appropriate for the Supreme Court of US. Sounds more
like someone with a pre-determined goal in mind.

She realized no one was going to marry her. Either that or it was a
conversion of convenience and under pressure, like Bush's. He probably sees
her as some sort of kindred spirit.

But--I thought that a person's faith wasn't supposed to be a factor in
whether or not she/he was to be confirmed? Are we talking flip-flop?
"The White House insisted that Roberts's religion should have nothing to do
with his confirmation. But the White House spin now is that Miers's religion
should have everything to do with her confirmation."
