Object: Bush still pushing amnesty for illegal aliens
WASHINGTON, July 5 (Reuters) - President George W. Bush on Wednesday
vowed to keep working for an amnesty plan for foreigners illegally in
this country, in the face of growing resistance from some senior
Republicans who have vowed to block any concessions to illegals.
As Republican lawmakers for and against comprehensive immigration
reform convened dueling public hearings in Philadelphia and San Diego,
Bush took a short trip from the White House to Alexandria, Virginia to
weigh in on the debate.
"I know there needs to be a worker program that says you can come here
on a temporary basis and work here legally," he said, noting the
benefit to corporations and foreign nations.
Bush had hoped that lawmakers from the Senate and the House of
Representatives would be sitting down by now to reconcile the vastly
different bills they passed so that he could sign a new law into effect
before the November mid-term elections.
Instead, House Republican leaders decided to hold a series of hearings
across the country, the first in San Diego on Wednesday, to drum up
support for their bill that includes measures to secure the Mexican
border and would define an estimated 11-12 million illegal immigrants
as felons.
Top House leaders have vowed not to accept the Bush-backed bill passed
by the Senate which they say contains an amnesty for illegal
immigrants.

Yes, there needs to be a "guest worker" program - and the fastest
way to get current illegals to sign-up is to offer them some kind
of carrot ... while, at the same time, threatening current
employers with the big stick. Not QUITE 'amnesty' - just top
positions on the 'guest' list ... and skip the racist vendettas
disguised as "crime-fighting".
Do you want it to WORK ? Do you want it to go QUICKLY and
SMOOTHLY ? Well then, do it "W"s way. He's got this one
right.

You are obviously living in a bubble somewhere in a snowy climate and

Serfs ? They're serfs NOW. Undocumented workers are ripe for the
worst kinds of exploitation and abuse - and often get it. Now a
properly DOCUMENTED 'guest worker' is a different story. They're
registered with the system, real people. That gives them far more
leverage, far more rights, far better means of dealing with those
who might exploit them. If you're AGAINST "guest" then you're FOR
serfdom.

I say let's send illegal aliens home wealthy.....here's how: A $20,000
reward for turning in an employer of illegal aliens...payable even to
an illegal alien. Plus first class airfare back home...all paid for by
the employer.

Try a good old-fashioned 'conservative' principle on for size

such 'natural rights' stuff. Mexicans don't "deserve" to starve

it would be NICE if Mexico could magically straighten out its
economy and politics ... but hell, after over 200 years even
WE can't get those things right.
I'll lay one other little truth on you ... if we force 15+
million illegals back down south and block the border it's
gonna cause massive upheavals in Mexico. These will NOT lead
to any "better way" - quite the contrary. Things will get
worse and worse and eventually drag us into the fray. We'll
have an Iraq-style occupation of northern Mexico, with
similarly shitty results. Sound good to you ? Maybe if
you've got a lot of Halliburton stock ...

I'm against amnesty for those that have broken into this country
illegally. They cannot be rewarded, nor can lower-wage Americans who
ARE legal citizens afford them.
If these shadowy foreigners, who deal in fraudulent identifications and
theft from America, are rewarded as George Bush wants, then they become
legal, right? Well, then suddenly corporate America will need millions
of new illegals so that they can pay the least wages with the least
amount of government interference, so the newly legals will be squeezed
in with minimum-wage workers who are Americans, and both groups will be
pushed aside as a new wave of illegal, undocumented, crime-riddled
foreigners move in to replace them.
Send most of them back, even if it's done over a long period of time as
they are identified, and enforce harsh penalties on the companies that
hire them. Tighten the borders, and engage all law enforcement
agencies in discovering them.

Oh get off your high fuckin' horse ! You smell like a
goddamned racist pig. Hey, Arnie Schwartzenegger played
fast and loose with immigration policy and work visas -
but I'll bet you don't want HIM thrown in jail. Not a
'beaner' ...

If these shadowy foreigners, who deal in fraudulent identifications and
theft from America, are rewarded as George Bush wants, then they become
legal, right?

No, they go out of business. "Guest" is the worst possible thing
for them - it would be like quitting the 'drug war' ... a massive
blow to many bank accounts.
The people against "guest" are people who PROFIT from trade in
and exploitation of illegals. Some are "shadowy foreigners", some
are supposedly red white and blue US businesses.

Well, then suddenly corporate America will need millions
of new illegals so that they can pay the least wages with the least
amount of government interference, so the newly legals will be squeezed
in with minimum-wage workers who are Americans, and both groups will be

Nope.
"Guest" is a two-pronged effort. Illegals must be processed,
and properly documented for security/management purposes AND
domestic businesses must be terrorized by INS and huge fines
levied if they are caught using illegals. What this does is
make sure it's just EASIER and CHEAPER to hire from the pool
of 'guests'.
A big pool of 'guests' will be needed - almost as big as the
number of current illegals. Where you gonna get 'em on short
notice, so things aren't disrupted ? Easy - you turn the
current illegals into LEGALS, 'guests'. Skip the racist
vendettas and ***** rhetoric about 'invaders' and 'criminals'
and do what's BEST.

Send most of them back, even if it's done over a long period of time as
they are identified, and enforce harsh penalties on the companies that
hire them. Tighten the borders, and engage all law enforcement
agencies in discovering them.

How much do you want to PAY for all this - on top of what you'll
have to pay at the supermarket for union-scale tomato pickers ???
How much violence are you willing to accept ? How much corruption ?
Sounds to me like the 'drug war' - just with 'beaners' instead
of 'drugs'. It will be just as much a failure, just as much a
black hole into which mountains of money are dumped yearly, just
as much a cash-cow for a few select entities.
Nope. We need LOTS of 'guests' ... and the BEST ones will be
the ones who already have experience working in the US. It
needs to be fairly EASY to become a 'guest'. It needs to be
fairly EASY for employers to get all the 'guests' they need.

Actually they are well paid (comparatively) and many/most don't even

Undocumented workers are ripe for the

Strange, is that why there are 13 million new illegals in the country?
You don't suppose that they might be masochists, do you?

Now a
properly DOCUMENTED 'guest worker' is a different story.

In what way?
They would still be taking jobs from US workers.

They're
registered with the system, real people.

No they 'ain't' registered. Real or not.

That gives them far more
leverage, far more rights, far better means of dealing with those
who might exploit them.

Dealing with those who would exploit them is also crucial.
We need to enforce US law and penalize those who hire illegals.

If you're AGAINST "guest" then you're FOR
serfdom.

No connection. It's Mexico's problem to stop mexican surfdom - not
ours.
It's our problem to stop US workers from sliding down to third-world
standards of living.
Any benefits should fall upon US citizens - not Mexican ones.

SOME are well paid. Most aren't. Depends on their job.

Undocumented workers are ripe for the
worst kinds of exploitation and abuse - and often get it.

You don't suppose that they might be masochists, do you?

People will put up with all kinds of crap if they're
desperate enough for money. You think streetwalkers
pick up stinky creepy drunks because they're "Sooo
Horny" ???

Now a
properly DOCUMENTED 'guest worker' is a different story.

In what way?
They would still be taking jobs from US workers.

No, they'd BE a kind of official "US worker" then.
Doesn't matter. Joe American isn't gonna pick tomatoes
in the sun all day even if you paid him twice what Jose'
is getting ... he'll find a way to squeeze money out of
the 'welfare'/unemployment system instead.

They're
registered with the system, real people.

No they 'ain't' registered. Real or not.

Um ... what do you think becoming a "guest" MEANS ?
Gives 'em a name, an identity, legal status.

That gives them far more
leverage, far more rights, far better means of dealing with those
who might exploit them.

Dealing with those who would exploit them is also crucial.
We need to enforce US law and penalize those who hire illegals.

That's the other half of the equation. Persecuting Mexicans
alone won't do it - because they're SO desperate for money.
Persecuting US employers alone won't do it because their need
for cheap workers is so great - they'll constantly be finding
ways to cheat the system.
To make it work we've gotta put the screw on the employers
while, at the SAME time, creating an easy way to get cheap
LEGAL labor. In short, make it easy enough so that they
won't BOTHER to cheat the system. That means a large pool
of legal "guests" for them to choose from. If Joe American
wants to work at those wages, fine, he can jump on the
turnip truck with the rest of them.

If you're AGAINST "guest" then you're FOR
serfdom.

No connection. It's Mexico's problem to stop mexican surfdom - not
ours.

An incredibly naive' viewpoint ...

It's our problem to stop US workers from sliding down to third-world
standards of living.

Sorry, that's gonna happen eventually anyway - but not because
of Mexico, but CHINA instead. Whatever WE can make or do, THEY
can make or do it cheaper.
More like 2nd-world standard actually ... not QUITE so bad.

Any benefits should fall upon US citizens - not Mexican ones.

Gotta give in order to get. Didn't anyone teach you that ?

They'd better get themselves guns and shoot the *****.
1) Moving class action lawsuits into less receptive federal
courts from state courts, so his buddies can keep more of "their"
money.
2) The "Monsanto laws".
3) Giveaways to Halliburton.
4) The Fed dumping a couple trillion in funny money into the
economy, stealing from every citizen.
5) "Patriot" Acts I and II.
6) The "Total Information Awareness System", which was voted
down by Congress, and which just kept going right ahead under the
direction of one of the major crooks involved in the Iran-Contra
scandal.
7) Spying on Americans, using "terrorism" as an excuse.
8) Attaching stupid little notes to pieces of legislation that
he signs into law saying that he will disregard them as he sees fit.
9) Supporting illegal immigration to drive down wage standards
so his buddies can keep more of "their" money. Claiming that the
immigrants will only be "doing jobs Americans won't" while making sure
border guards let anyone with tech sector skills through, such as
computer programmers. Also not informing the American public that
things aren't what they used to be in Mexico, and since NAFTA a lot of
factories there mean tens of thousands of fairly well trained
industrial workers... who are in the US as far as Bush is concerned to
drive down wage standards.
10) The Carlysle Group.

*** The above is only a partial list and is not meant to be
presented as a full list of the crimes of George W. Bush. ***

Yes, there needs to be a "guest worker" program - and the fastest
way to get current illegals to sign-up is to offer them some kind
of carrot ... while, at the same time, threatening current
employers with the big stick. Not QUITE 'amnesty' - just top
positions on the 'guest' list ... and skip the racist vendettas
disguised as "crime-fighting".

Do you want it to WORK ? Do you want it to go QUICKLY and
SMOOTHLY ? Well then, do it "W"s way. He's got this one
right.
