Bushs' Press Conference |
....
I know her well enough to be able to say that she's not going to change,
that 20 years from now she'll be the same person with the same
philosophy that she is today.
....
I'm interested in finding somebody who shares my philosophy today, and
will have that same philosophy 20 years from now. And after spending a
lot of time thinking about this nomination, there's no doubt in my mind
that's -- that's the way Harriet Miers -- there's no doubt in my mind
it's the way Chief Justice John Roberts is, as well.
....
I made my position very clear in the course of my campaigns, my
position, and I'm a pro-life President. Harriet Miers is going to go up
to the Senate, and they're going to look at her and determine whether or
not she's got the temperament, the intelligence, and the philosophy to
be an excellent Supreme Court judge. And she will be. She will be.
....
I know her, I know her heart. I know what she believes.
....
And what I believe, and what I know is important, is that she doesn't
change over the course of time. And had I thought she would change, I
wouldn't put her on there.
....

Hmmm... Didn't he say the same thing about Putin?
"I looked the man in the eye... "
"I was able to get a sense of his soul."
Great judge of character.

Funny. I never thought of that.
What I find interesting, is that his whole spiel is about convincing
"conservatives" that she's anti-abortion and won't change her stance.
But she'll be defending herself against having her mind made up about
things that may come before the court, before the senate for confirmation.
In other words, Bush is adamantly stating that she's a dyed-in-wool
right winger, "pro life", against the separation of church and state and
all, when that's exactly what may disqualify her from receiving the seat
on the bench.
The funniest thing is that she's an appointment that can be little more
than cronyism, his own lawyer for Christs' sake, yet her greatest
dissent comes from the presidents' own party.
