Bush’s Unpopularity Is Good News for the World
By Amitabh Pal
November 14, 2005
Finally, some good news for the planet.
President Bush is so unpopular at home that this is hampering his
effectiveness abroad.
A recent poll conducted earlier this month has Bush’s popularity at
the lowest of any president at a comparable stage in the presidency
since Richard Nixon was mired in Watergate.
(And we all know how that story ended.)
Bush is performing badly even on his previous strong suits, such as
the war on terror and his own integrity.
Leaders and populations in other countries pay attention to domestic
happenings in the United States, and have been quick to grasp his
unenviable situation.
Not that he was ever very well liked globally, but people were forced
to pay heed to him for a period after his reelection.
Now all of that has dissipated, and for the better.
Most visibly, Bush’s plan for a hemisphere-wide free trade deal met
with disaster during his trip to Argentina, both at the official and
the public level.
Not just Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez, but even host Argentinian
President Nestor Kirchner was openly disdainful of Bush’s agenda.
To make matters worse, a supposed ally like Mexican President Vicente
Fox appeared dismissive when asked about why he didn’t meet Bush.
"He wasn't interested, and I wasn't either," he remarked.

As always Harry I agree, but my God how stupid this country must look
to the rest of the World by now that it took this long for the other
50% of us to finally figure it out.. the only comfort we have is that
intelligent Americans like us knew years ago what a crap brained idiot
Bush was and we are finally being exhonorated, is a nice feeling on
that note at least..

Unfortunately, it might take years to restore confidence in the US.
What I don't get is why do Americans only realize that after electing
him for a second time? One time wasn't enough? Was he "that" good
between 2000 and 2004?
Concerning free-trade, I know that the "objective" American medias
don't cover that, but Canadians are pretty upset with the billions of
dollars lost each year by Canadian softwood industries despite the
judgement made by an international tribunal that the US, of course,
doesn't respect. Why would Mexico and other countries trust the USA
when they see that the biggest economical partner and closest allie is
being screwed big time? The USA must not be surprised to be treated
like a pariah... it's only pay-back time...

Oh trust me, Americans like Harry and myself that were against him from
day 1 of his first term have had that question in our heads this entire
first year of his second term. I will never quite understand it, war or
no war Bush should have been dropped kicked from the Whiethouse for the
serious damage he did to us during his first term, not rewaded with
another chance, it is absurd. How about this, 3 more years, I don't
even want to think about it. A few things that come to mind are the way
he has many stupid people, largely his conservative base, brainwashed
into thinking all Americans need are lax gun laws, strict abortion
laws, Jesus and NASCAR and we will all be just fine. It is a very sick
and demented state of dillusion these people live in.

Concerning free-trade, I know that the "objective" American medias
don't cover that, but Canadians are pretty upset with the billions of

Bush Republicans don't care about 50% of the voters in this country AT
all, do you really think they will care about Canada or any other
country other than to rape them for oil if they don't even care about
half our own people? Understand this, Republicans are everything that
is wrong with the World today, understand that it is not America, it is
the Republican party in America, the rest of us, mostly Democrats,
agree with the rest of you.

Why would Mexico and other countries trust the USA
when they see that the biggest economical partner and closest allie is
being screwed big time?

Ask Bush, blame Bush and we do hate him for all of it, Democrats
believe in having strong International economic relations, on the other
hand the Republican idea of strong economic relations is to ship
American jobs overseas. This way the Republican owned fat cat
corporations don't have to pay high wages to American workers, of
course you can imagine the devastating effect this has on our own job
market and economy. Why would they do this to us? simple, they don't
care, they are getting rich from it, meanwhile the American people
starve. The dumb ones are just starting to get it now, that they have
been suckered into voting Republican with alot of hype about gun laws,
Jesus and abortion.

The USA must not be surprised to be treated
like a pariah... it's only pay-back time...

I am not surprised at all by anything anymore directed at the USA,
please try to remember that once we have a Democrat back in the
Whitehouse we will hope the rest of the World will work with us in
restoring our dignity and the relationships around the World these
Republican bastards have carelessly damaged, we ALL have had to pay for
it, even here in the states, you are not alone.
