In a news conference yesterday, George Bush said, "I think about Iraq every
day -- every single day - " Bush says he knows it is dangerous. He says it
is dangerous because the insurgents want to drive us out of Iraq.
Nonetheless, Bush stubbornly says, "we will complete this mission for the
sake of world peace."
The mission, according to Bush, is to have a democratic ally in the Middle
East. Additionally he says he wants to battle-hardened the Iraqis so they
can defend themselves. Bush says he is making progress on that. Is he? Show
us the proof! If Bush says he is making progress in Iraq, then all he has to
do is show the proof, but he cannot. There has not been any improvement in
Iraq. Look at this.
Yesterday, 37 died in Iraq, most of them were Iraqi police and security
forces. In the last two days, over 80 people have died in Iraq, including an
8-month-old baby. It gets worse, overall in the last two months, 1200 people
have died in Iraq, including 137 U.S. soldiers.
Is that progress? In the last sixty days, twelve hundred people dying in
Iraq is not progress. That is wholesale murder. Murder all in the name of a
scheme Bush cooked up allegedly to protect Americans from terrorism.
Yesterday Bush said, "we will complete the mission and the world will be
better off for it." How? Bush is trying to cram American idealism down the
throats of people who have been living in that part of the world for 8000
years. George Bush is a megalomaniacal fool for believing he can sucker an
8000-year-old culture into American idealism.
History proves cultures that vast do not change at the whim of an American
President. Once before the U.S. went to war under the guise of fending off a
threat. That was Vietnam. What happened in Vietnam? The U.S. had to give up
and come home defeated. After stupidly wasting 55,000 American lives,
America had to give up and cut its losses. Can't George Bush learn from
history? Apparently not! Iraq is Bush's Vietnam.
Of course, the people Bush is in bed with are not helping. NBC news says
that over 55% of the rebel forces in Iraq are Saudi Arabian, (Myers, 2005).
Bush caters to the Saudi royal family. After all, they are in the oil
business together. It does not speak well for Bush's choice of business
partners that most of the 9-eleven hijackers and most of the rebel fighters
in Iraq come from Saudi Arabia.
Bush is wrong about this war and Americans know it. Look at this.
USA Today/CNN poll released today. Do you favor or oppose the US war with
Iraq? 59% are opposed, only 39% favor, 2% undecided.
NY Time/CBS poll released June 15, 2005. Do you approve or disapprove of the
way George W. Bush is handling the situation with Iraq? 59% disapprove, 37%
approve, 4% undecided.
Washington Post/ABC poll release June 5, 2005. The situation in Iraq. 58%
disapprove, 41% approve, 1% undecided.
Americans do not support this war. Politicians who support the war will not
be re-elected in 2006. Contact your Senator and Representative and tell them
the war is not working, and George Bush guessed wrong about the
post-invasion insurgency. Urge them to push Bush to bring the troops home
and stop this senseless war that has murdered 1,724 U.S. soldiers to date.
