While I disagree with Kerry's position on marriage rights, he has been
consistent. He is against extending marriage rights to homosexual
couples. He is against a constitutional ban prohibiting the extension of
marriage rights to homosexual couples. Like his position on abortion, he
can separate his personal beliefs from his beliefs about what should or
should not be written into law.

No, actually it's not. This is different. And it's an elegant solution.
Now, I know these contextual distinctions (also known as "nuances" AKA
"IMPORTANT DETAILS") give you right wingers problems, but marriage is an
inherently religious thing and the perameters for what is and what is
not a valid marriage should be set by church, not state. However, civil
unions are a stricly secular thing and should be the right of any
taxpaying citizen. If individual churches want to follow suit, that is
completely up to them. So to summarize, homosexuals should be able to be
legally bound, but it shouldn't be called marriage. Maybe that's a
little too complicated for your dimwitted brain. I am anticipating you
or one of your fellow dimwits simplifying and distorting my position on
this, because that seems to be the favorite tactic of the right at current.
