The Portland Press-Herald in Maine recently published an op-ed
("Pending doom: Global warming crisis") by five environmentalists.
They claim the earth's temperature "is rising to dangerous levels" and
doing so at "such an alarming rate that the continents are in danger."
They blamed mankind's greenhouse gases for Hurricane Katrina; for "the
strange weather around us this winter and spring and even summer-like
days in March"; and for melting ice shelves and glaciers that "will
raise the water level of the world's oceans nearly 40 feet. Basically,
Manhattan would be underwater."
That's extreme even by Al Gore's standards. But there's a reason their
seem juvenile: The authors are fourth-graders at Portland's East End
Community School. Yes, America's schoolchildren are being fed
propaganda masquerading as science, and as it is with the
global-warmists' computer models, it's garbage in, garbage out.
Yet from these facile arguments, the students expect readers to run
out and change light bulbs, drive less, recycle more, plant trees and
turn off their electronics to "save (pick a number) pounds of CO" a
year. Since their teacher wasn't knowledgeable enough about science to
teach them the correct chemical symbol for carbon dioxide (CO2),
readers have every right to question his credentials, the curriculum
and his ability to separate facts from talking points.
The students were right in urging everyone to "be informed." They
recommended visiting Mr. Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" Web site and
www.stopglobalwarming.org, where the arguments are only slightly more
sophisticated than those expressed by the fourth-graders. For more
lucid, factual information, try junkscience.com, the Competitive
Enterprise Institute's environmental-policy page (www.cei.org) and
TCSDaily.com. The facts suppressed by the mainstream news media may be
found there.
