Clinton and the debt increase, thanks to his "surplus" |
Occasionaly one encounters drooling Libs in these newsgroups, and those
drooling Libs begin spewing the usual Michael Moore lie that somehow Clinton
"produced a surplus". Having been told that supposed "fact" by idiots such
as Michael Moore, they begin repeating that lie themselves, like good little
librul drones.
Yet if they had bothered to do a bit of simple research rather than take
Michael Moore's sermons as gospel, they would have found the following is
what REALLY happened:
The Debt to the Penny
09/30/2004 $7,379,052,696,330.32
09/30/2003 $6,783,231,062,743.62
09/30/2002 $6,228,235,965,597.16
09/28/2001 $5,807,463,412,200.06
09/29/2000 $5,674,178,209,886.86
09/30/1999 $5,656,270,901,615.43
09/30/1998 $5,526,193,008,897.62
09/30/1997 $5,413,146,011,397.34
09/30/1996 $5,224,810,939,135.73
09/29/1995 $4,973,982,900,709.39
09/30/1994 $4,692,749,910,013.32
09/30/1993 $4,411,488,883,139.38
09/30/1992 $4,064,620,655,521.66
09/30/1991 $3,665,303,351,697.03
09/28/1990 $3,233,313,451,777.25
09/29/1989 $2,857,430,960,187.32
09/30/1988 $2,602,337,712,041.16
09/30/1987 $2,350,276,890,953.00
http://www.publicdebt.treas.gov/opd/opdpenny.htm
If the knuckle-dragging libruls weren't so stupid, one could ask them to
read that chart above and ask them to show us during which year(s) the debt
decreased, thanks to "Clinton's surplus". But alas, they are too stupid to
do that, so we won't even ask them to do that.....

Ever take accounting?
You may find that while one can have debt, one can also have assets. Read up
on it. It's amazing.
Then you can find the difference of those two numbers and figure out where
you are at.
All you have is the debt column here.

Fascinating how you cut out some columns there. Here's the first
column that you cut out -- the debt held by the public. In other
words, if you exclude the "IOUs" the government wrote to itself, and
only look at it's debt obligations outside the government, here's what
you get:
09/30/2004 4,307,344,596,908.92
09/30/2003 3,924,090,106,880.88

09/29/2000 3,405,303,490,221.20
09/30/1999 3,636,104,594,501.81
09/30/1998 3,733,864,472,163.53
09/30/1997 3,789,667,546,849.60
Gosh, the debt held by the public went down in 1998, 1999, 2000, and
2001 (Clinton's last budget). Then it started going back up again.

Sure, you can manipulate the data like that or in a couple of other ways
also, and by excluding certain kinds of debt (such as Savings Bonds held by
the American people) you can make it look like income exceeded outgo during
a couple of the years Clinton was running things. But of course all that
means is that you have excluded certain kinds of debts that the federal
government incurred while Clinton was running things.
Another way you could manipulate the data concerning the Clinton deficit
spending would be to exclude all debts which the Clinton government incurred
and which are held by women over the age of 30 and under the age of 60.
That too would make it look like Clinton hadn't run up as big a debt as he
did. But again, all that means is that you have excluded certain kinds of
debts!
The bottom line, once we don't allow shysters like you to arbitrarily
exclude certain forms of federal debt that Clinton incurred, is that in
EVERY YEAR that Clinton was running things he spent MORE than was taken in!
For example, if I were to exclude certain forms of deficit spending *I* have
incurred (like maybe not count my home mortgage, or maybe not count my VISA
card debt, or exclude my car loan) I could manipulate MY books such that my
deficit spending looks like I have "created a surplus".
Sorry, but I'm not a shyster like you, so I wouldn't do that. And neither
will I arbitrarily exclude certain forms of debt that William Jefferson
Clinton incurred.
Begone, shyster!

In other words, you preach no Repug accountability, because, of course,
they don't make mistakes.
That's a sickness with the Repugs, isn't it?
