Cook County prosecutors seek audit of firm with ties to gov

Cook County prosecutors are trying to get their hands on an audit of a
company with ties to Gov. Blagojevich, the Sun-Times has learned.
In January, Blagojevich requested an audit of the state's dealings with
scandal-plagued K.K. Bio-Science -- a company run by Anita Mahajan, who
has financial ties to the governor and his wife.
Prosecutors are seeking the audit to determine how much money the state
stands to recover.
Despite a June 29 subpoena to the Department of Children and Family
Services, the administration has not released the results. A spokeswoman
said Monday the audit was "ongoing."
"We're discussing with various counsel to determine what, if anything,
should be turned over," said Robin Munden, a lawyer for Crowe Chizek &
Co., the accounting firm that performed the audit.
Blagojevich spokeswoman Abby Ottenhoff said, "We've been working with
the state's attorney's office on this. We're more than willing to share
relevant findings."
A spokesman for the state's attorney's office declined to comment.
Prosecutors in March charged Anita Mahajan with bilking DCFS of at least
$2.1 million through overbilling. Mahajan's company had no-bid contracts
to do urine tests on parents in custody cases. The company had worked
for DCFS before Blagojevich became governor.
Mahajan's husband had donated money to Blagojevich. And Patti
Blagojevich earned $113,000 in real estate commissions on deals
involving the Mahajans.
On June 29, prosecutors subpoenaed "any and all reports, documents and
correspondence related to the audit of K.K. Bio-Science," court records
show. The subpoenas were directed to Munden and acting DCFS director
Erwin McEwen.
"It is the policy and practice of DCFS to cooperate whenever subpoenas
are issued," said DCFS spokesman Kendall Marlowe.

Imagine that, 6.4 children die at the hands of the very agencies that
are supposed to protect them and only 1.5 at the hands of parents per
100,000 children. CPS perpetrates more abuse, neglect, and sexual abuse
and kills more children then parents in the United States. If the
citizens of this country hold CPS to the same standards that they hold
parents too. No judge should ever put another child in the hands of ANY
government agency because CPS nationwide is guilty of more harm and
death than any human being combined. CPS nationwide is guilty of more
human rights violations and deaths of children then the homes from which
they were removed. When are the judges going to wake up and see that
they are sending children to their death and a life of abuse when
children are removed from safe homes based on the mere opinion of a
bunch of social workers.
