Disbarment sought for GOP hopeful Landrith
TOPEKA --
The Kansas Supreme Court is considering whether to disbar a Topeka
attorney who is seeking the Republican nomination for lieutenant
governor.
The Kansas Board for Discipline of Attorneys has recommended
disbarment of Bret D. Landrith over accusations that he made false
allegations against court employees, judges and lawyers and failed to
provide adequate representation to his clients in a pair of cases the
year after he was admitted to practice law in September 2002.
The high court heard the disciplinary case Thursday but did not take
any action.
The disciplinary board said Landrith "is not equipped with the ethical
or intellectual characteristics necessary to ever become an active and
productive member of the bar of the state of Kansas."
"I've seen no other disciplinary case like this," Stanton Hazlett, the
state disciplinary administrator, told the court.
