Last Thursday we inaugurated a weekly blitz-day to
bombard Congress with demands to sponsor and pass
DownsizeDC.org's "Read the Bills Act of 2005" (RTBA).
Our goal was to raise the total number of messages in
support of RTBA to 6,577. We got close, reaching
6,321.
If you're new to DownsizeDC.org (and nearly 2,000
of you are), and you don't know what "Read the Bills"
is, it is exactly what it sounds like - legislation to
force Congress to read every word of every bill before
it votes to pass it into law. You can learn more about
RTBA here:
http://www.downsizedc.org/read_the_laws.shtml
We can force Congress to pass RTBA by exerting an
ever-increasing amount of pressure on them to do so.
This "force" involves a wide variety of "weapons" that
we will implement stage-by-stage over the coming
months. But one of the most important weapons is one
you can use right now. It will only take two-to-five
minutes of your time. Send a message to Congress!
You do not have to write a long message. One or two
sentences, even a paragraph will do it. It's like they
say, "Brevity is the soul of wit." A brief message is
more memorable than an editorial. Ask them to pass
RTBA. Give them one reason why.
We need everyone who has already sent a message on
RTBA to do it again. Is this rude or a waste of time?
The answer is no and no.
It is rude for your elected representatives to not
sponsor and pass RTBA. It is not rude for you to
repeatedly ask for this most reasonable action until
you get what you want and rightly deserve.
And it is not a waste of time because the lobbyists
who want more government handouts are there on Capitol
Hill everyday and you are not. Congress thinks they
can ignore the taxpayer. They believe you have a short
attention span and will forget about RTBA. You must
prove them wrong.
You must be like the big government lobbyist who is
always there, begging, begging, begging for another
handout. Only you are asking not for a handout, but
for reasonable relief from Congressional
irresponsibility. Remember, Congress works for you!
And we especially need those of you who haven't yet
registered to use the DownsizeDC.org Electronic
Lobbyist system to please do so now, and use it to
send a message in support of RTBA. Our goal for the
next week is to raise RTBA messages to Congress to
9,610 - or better yet, let's make that 10,000!
The time to stop complaining about what government
does has passed. The time to start banging on Congress
to change things has arrived. It's up to you to make
Congress sweat. To send your message click on this

Thank you,
Jim Babka
President

PS: Let me say one more thing about repeat messages.
What you're doing is working. Word about this is
getting out all over the Internet. The media keeps
calling about this issue and we haven't done anything
(YET) designed specifically to attract their
attention. Reader's Digest contacted me and
interviewed me for a story they were doing. My
comments didn't make the final cut, but it is another
important piece of evidence that RTBA is on the radar.
And our idea is spreading to some interesting places.
In fact, I just learned about a potentially dramatic
development this morning that I can't comment on yet.
In fact, I probably won't be able to say anything
about it for a week, perhaps more.
Yesterday, I told you that there's too much good news
to report. From where I'm sitting, what we're doing is
definitely working. That's why we NEED to keep the
pressure on. Please, act now. Let's break past the
10,000 message mark on this issue!
