Good news and bad news...
Bad news: The Senate passed the $82 billion
"emergency" appropriations bill by a vote of 99 to
nothing. This is hardly surprising. There are a lot
of special interest lobbyists on Capitol Hill begging
for more government spending.
Good news: The Senate stripped out the provision for
a national ID card.
The growth of government power is not inevitable.
Politicians will listen to their constituents, if
they hear from enough of them.
We need to change the balance of power with regard to
government spending. Right now, the lobbyists on K
Street in Washington, DC have all the power. But with
the growth of Downsize DC taxpayers can match, and
then exceed, that power. We have the numbers, if only
we will join together and exert ourselves.
The "Read the Bills Act of 2005" should give us the
vehicle to do that. It will bring us supporters, and
will likely make large spending bills, like the
"emergency" appropriations bill, a thing of the past.
Spending bills will probably come in smaller packages
and receive more public exposure. These smaller bills
will make a fine target for a much larger Downsize
DC.
Six more people joined the RTBA Submission Committee
yesterday: Darrell D. White, Dr. Mike Rosing, Walter
Uhlman, Ronald G. Holley, Michael T. Foley, and
Eugene L. Bivins. We're hoping to send RTBA to
Congress next week, probably through a blast fax, and
announce the effort to the media. The members of the
Submission Committee are making this next step
possible. Your chance to join the Submission
Committee will end soon. To join, make a contribution
