Driving While O'Reillying |
At last, empirical evidence that listening to Fox News' Bill O'Reilly turns
people into jerks. The evidence comes from MSNBC's Keith Olbermann, whose
"Countdown" show for Thursday (August 24, 2006) featured police video of a
Florida man caught driving while under the influence of Bill O'Reilly.
In a segment titled, "Driving While O'Reillying," Olbermann showed the video
of a police officer in Largo, Florida, stopping a man for speeding and for
playing his stereo too loud.
The man didn't complain much about the speeding ticket, but he really
objected to being cited for having the volume up so high on his car music
system that it could be heard more than 25 feet away. He objected that the
statute limiting stereos only applied to music, like rap and hip-hop, and
not to Bill O'Reilly. Then he resorted to calling the officer names --
"donut-eater".
The incident is revealing about O'Reilly fans on a couple different levels
(You can tell the guy is an O'Reilly fan because he was not yelling at his
radio when the officer stopped him.)
For one, the man has an obvious sense of entitlement. He thinks he's
entitled to do what he wants to do regardless of the consequences for
anybody else. I thought conservatives didn't like entitlements.
Two, laws don't apply to him, only to other people. He doesn't have to obey
the law if he doesn't want to. I thought conservatives were law-abiding.
Three, respect for law enforcement lasts only as long as police are
arresting other people and not him. I mean, calling a cop "donut-eater" and
"a swine" because he's writing you two citations -- including one you later
admit to. I thought conservatives were big supporters of "first responders."
Four, not all O'Reilly fans are age 71. This guy sounded younger than that.
Five, we now have official support for the concept that Bill O'Reilly's show
constitutes noise pollution -- at least in Florida.
Six, listening to all that hate spewing from the likes of Bill O'Reilly's
mouth may dull people's creative abilities. Come on, guy. "Donut-eater"?
Straight out of the 60s. Can't O'Reilly fans insult law enforcement with a
little more post-9/11 style? Maybe if the officer had looked like a Democrat
or a Muslim he could have come up with something better.
Still, the admitted O'Reilly noise-polluter put on a pretty good show.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That's funny stuff!
What's more funny though, is that if there was a segment on O'Reilly, say of
some douchebag caught on video throwing a tantrum after the republicans lose
in November.
I'd just chuckle.
What I'd never do is this:
I'd never go post on a website to try to defend this idiot! I'd never ever
try to mitigate his complete idiotic douchebaggery with some dopey
"republican" explanation! At the most, the very most, I might just say that
the noise pollution charge was maybe a tad overboard.
Goes to show ya, the republican trollz are conditioned to defend anything!!
Must suck having to defend the indefensible day in and day out! Especially
the hilariously douche-riffic stuff! God, that would really be awful!!
LOL!
gleem!

I understand Olbermann's frustration over O'Reilly completely
eviscerating him in the ratings, but he should really get some new
material.

They aren't on at the same time so ratings aren't appropriate.

You mean to say that 8 p.m. is a different time on
MSNBC than it is on Fox?
I did not know that.

Republicans have been defending failure since the Reagan tax cut failed
to balance the budget 25 years ago.
