Drug resistant TB from Mexican illegals |
In Cal Thomas' Fox News broadcast "Column One" today, he says that there's a
new reason to close the border to illegals from Mexico. Tuberculosis. It was
wiped out in this country, but some of the illegals now entering California
from Mexico, are now being found with a drug resistant strain that costs a
***million dollars a person*** to treat!
Thomas says that this gives us a reason to close our borders to illegals and
patrol them, to protect the American people from an epidemic of the stuff.

It's also an argument for government funded single payer health insurance.
If these people were treated, they wouldn't develop drug resistance, and
they wouldn't spread it to us.
As for cost shifting to the rest of us for their care, these illegals
have to work somewhere, so bill their employers for the cost of the
medical coverage.

Single payer? Why not be honest and call it what it is liberal, SOCIALIST
MEDICINE payed for by enslaving other people!

At a million dollars each? Let them get treated in Mexico! Why should

Oh yeah, right, I'm sure an employer who wants to hire them for $3 an hour,
is interested in paying $1 million each to treat their TB.

Because no one with some education is going to make confusion betwen
socialism and social democracy.
At a million dollars each? Let them get treated in Mexico! Why should

Some contagious illnesses without antibiotics can be transmitted for months
or even years, while even if not yet curred will not be transmissible after
first week under antibiotics.
Now, let assume your child sit in the metro or movie theater next to a
person in his 8-th day of illness. Would you like that person to be under
antibiotics or not?
Oh yeah, right, I'm sure an employer who wants to hire them for $3 an
hour, is interested in paying $1 million each to treat their TB.
With a universal health care system that employer will not pay a million,
but a fair share it can afford. But some uncivilized extreme right
activists oppose the only health care system compatible with human dignity.
Let be clear, I do not advocate open borders here. But let face it.
The private health insurance system is ultimately a serious danger to
national security. Keep in mind that a very contagious disses can be brought
not only by illegal immigrants, but by lawfully admitted visitors, which
are terrorists bringing a self inflicted illness as a weapon.
We have 40 Mil possible germ vectors who know that they can not afford to
see a doctor, therefore they will not receive antibiotics in time to stop
the epidemic. When they finally go to emergency room, hundreds can be
infected. From them, a couple of uninsured who will not see a doctor
until .........
And for what? Because some insurance shareholders were generous during
the election campain !!!
Greediness can kill the cat !!!

Humm, actually corporations are starting to come around on this. GM, for
example, would love to have their retirees covered by single payer, and
thus reduce their liability and make them more competative.
GM and others are hardly communist.
If these people were treated, they wouldn't develop drug resistance, and
they wouldn't spread it to us.

Cost containment, including drug prices are a seperate issue that needs
to be addressed within the US.
It doesn't help when Bush makes it illegal for medicare/medicaid to
negotiate for better prices.
BTW, are you saying that this is capitalism and therefore should be
allowed? It sounds more like big government giving handouts to the drug
companies and has nothing to do with free trade and competative capitalism.
As for cost shifting to the rest of us for their care, these illegals

How many billions does Wal-Mart turn over to their stock holders?
They have the money to pay into at least a minimilist single payer plan.
What they do right now is pay nothing, so when a temp Wal-Mart worker
gets sick, those costs are shifted right out of your pocket into the
Wal-Mart stockholders pockets.
Nice of you to do that! Really! No, seriously, why do you allow the
Wal-Marts of the world to operate this way?

Actually they have that now because most companies with a defined pension
plan with medical benefits drop the coverage when the person hits Medicare
age and just picks up the supplemental sometimes. Union contracts vary but
most of them require the folks to go medicare so it is almost there now. It
would not make them more competitve only dropping their pension payments
altogether would do that and Bush is going to let them do it.

I agree. Medicare is a Socialist scheme, and it was cooked up by (you

Employers shouldn't even be in the health care business. That is somethat
that the individual should purchase for himself, to the extent that he
desires to. Ditto for retirement plans. The Democrats' giant Ponzi scheme
of Social Security should be ENDED, not mended.

list - they on the other hand are #1, #2, etc.
OK, what about handgun death? Well, the US leads there.
As for the US being on solid ground, we aren't. It's estimated that 25%
of our GDP is based on the current 'housing bubble' and when that one
breaks, as they all do, it's going to be a hard landing.

Humm, actually corporations are starting to come around on this. GM, for
example, would love to have their retirees covered by single payer, and
thus reduce their liability and make them more competative.
Sure, they can enslave the whole population to pay for benefits they have
to pay for now. How charming. Slavery is great, everyone should own some
slaves. It makes costs go down for the masters. Why I'm warming up to the
idea myself. Maybe I could own a slave colony some day.
GM and others are hardly communist.
No of course not, but the incentive to enslave others is just so
overwhelming in a coercive collectivist society.
Let's drop the word "communist", coercive collectivist is much more
accurate.
If these people were treated, they wouldn't develop drug resistance,
and they wouldn't spread it to us.
At a million dollars each? Let them get treated in Mexico! Why should
Americans be enslaved to treat them?!
Cost containment, including drug prices are a seperate issue that needs
to be addressed within the US.
You evaded my question.
It doesn't help when Bush makes it illegal for medicare/medicaid to
negotiate for better prices.
Still evading. Why should Americans be enslaved to pay for the health care
of Mexicans?
BTW, are you saying that this is capitalism and therefore should be
allowed? It sounds more like big government giving handouts to the drug
companies and has nothing to do with free trade and competative
capitalism.
No, I'm all for competition, I just bought my last supply of cetirizine (
AKA Zyrtec ) from India, which cost me $50 for 90 tabs with shipping,
instead of $180 if I could afford it here. I love a free market.
If the government protects a business from competition, it amounts to
corporate welfare, right?
As for cost shifting to the rest of us for their care, these illegals
have to work somewhere, so bill their employers for the cost of the
medical coverage.
Oh yeah, right, I'm sure an employer who wants to hire them for $3 an
hour, is interested in paying $1 million each to treat their TB.
How many billions does Wal-Mart turn over to their stock holders?
What's that got to do with Wendy's and McDonalds hiring back door illegals
to flip their burgers?
They have the money to pay into at least a minimilist single payer plan.
Then they wouldn't have those profits to pay their stockholders!
And quit being dishonest. Call it what it is. It's not a "single payer
plan", it's SOCIALIST MEDICINE! Enslaving some people to pay for the
medical care of others.
What they do right now is pay nothing, so when a temp Wal-Mart worker
gets sick, those costs are shifted right out of your pocket into the
Wal-Mart stockholders pockets.
Huh?
Nice of you to do that! Really! No, seriously, why do you allow the
Wal-Marts of the world to operate this way?
I believe in freedom and private property. If people aren't satisfied with
their jobs at Walmart, they're free to look elsewhere for better ones,
and/or to get better educated so they can move up the pay scale.

Huh?
Defintion: Cost Shifting - when someone elses medical care is provided
and then you pay the bill. It's done every day in hospitals. You go in
to get fixed up, and you pay full price because you are 'covered' but
then someone who's uninsured goes in, they get fixed up, and don't pay,
so guess where that money came from?
It was 'cost shifted' from your bill!
