Enron's Fastow pleads guilty. Could shine the spotlight on Bush buddy Kenny Boy Lay |
The pleas mark a significant step forward for the Enron Task Force.
Prosecutors hope Andrew Fastow's cooperation could help them determine
whether to bring criminal charges against Skilling and Lay.
As the No. 3 executive at Enron, Fastow is perceived to be one of the
few people with enough access to Skilling and Lay to significantly aid
prosecutors.

Andrew Fastow pleads guilty; wife on deck
Andrew Fastow, chief architect of the off-the-books deals that brought
down Enron, pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy Wednesday in a
deal that could take prosecutors to the top executives at the
scandal-ridden company.
Fastow's wife, Lea, was set to plead guilty later Wednesday to a tax
charge.
She is a former Enron assistant treasurer.
The plea by the former Enron finance chief calls for a 10-year prison
sentence and for him to help prosecutors who have targeted -- but not
charged -- the executives who once occupied the most opulent offices
on the company's top floor: former chairman Kenneth Lay and former CEO
Jeffrey Skilling.

It will really start churning as Bush's election chances look like
they are dipping. The next administration might not be so friendly to
Lay. What is the statute of limitations? How many terms of
Lay-friendly presidents would be necessary to completely protect him?
