EU claims it won Olympics
Success ... Britain
got 9 gold medals
By TREVOR KAVANAGH

EURO chief Romano Prodi last night hailed Britain’s haul of Olympic
gold as a triumph — for the European Union.
And he warned our athletes will have to fly the EU flag as well as the
Union Jack at Beijing in 2008.
That would mean 800m and 1500m champion Kelly Holmes and boxing
sensation Amir Khan would be battling for Brussels as much as Britain.

Mr Prodi turned the Athens games into a political football, boasting
that our bag of 30 medals helped the EU trounce America and China.
He said: “The Games were a huge success thanks to their unique spirit
and smooth organization but also because EU athletes did so well.
“In 2008 I hope to see the teams in Beijing carry the flag of the
European Union alongside their own national flag as a symbol of our
unity.
“The European Union’s sportsmen and women performed outstandingly at
Athens, winning 82 gold medals and more than 280 medals in total.”
Mr Prodi a failed Italian politician, is about to step down after a
dismal term as EU president.
He has infuriated critics by spelling out his vision for an EU
superstate, dubbed the “Holy Romano Empire”.
Mr Prodi’s grandiose plan for a Euro Olympic squad was backed by other
Eurocrats.
Commission spokesman Reijo Kemppinen claimed: “The EU swept the floor
at the Olympic Games.”
German Ingo Friedrich, vice-president of the Euro Parliament, insisted
medals must be listed under the EU to “foster a European identity”.
But ex-sports minister Kate Hoey blasted the Prodi plan.
“Athletes feel very strong emotions when they represent their own
country at the Olympics.
“We saw Amir Khan and other medal-winners kissing or crying into the
Union Jack and Kelly Holmes was proud to be picked to parade the flag
in the closing ceremony.
“Can anyone imagine them feeling that way about the EU banner?”

Unless the Olympics doesn't find out who is the actual best, and there
is an element of randomness to the victories, there shouldn't be any
difference in outcomes with one time or thirty six.

It seems more than a claim.
Might it have something to do with America poisioning itself with
industrial pollutants such as Mercury, or the American diet of high fat
and salt that leaves most of us overweight?

Yes, you moron, that muse be it.
I guess there isn't any pollution in Europe.
The German (and British, French, Italian....) diet is known for it's low-fat
properties

Jeez, how obtuse can you be? It is rather disengenuous for the EU to claim
that all those medals belong to them and not the individual countries. If
that is the case then the EU cheated by fielding more than one person/team

Whoever think that sport is about being polite and sportsmanship...
this is all about greed, power and domination (in a most subtle way...
a substitute for war). If it takes to cheat.. so be it. This is
getting similar to regular "lying" stories that we keep hearing in
politics recently... and also.. so be it.
Also, who choose the events? Why not have a "belly dancing" events, ..
or climbing trees, or digging underground tunnels/holes instead of
tennis, baseball or gymnastics. Because... if those events are chosen
and held, perhaps we will loose the advantages and may even loose the
medals... we don't want to have those medals go to the third world
countries, do we? After all, we paid the NBC,VISA card fees and
interests, etc.
In the Olympics, I praise for countries that are sending their most
athletes and win the least medals. That way the athletes are the ones
having the good fun and benefits, by getting big treats of free
holiday, travel and foods!
It is very simple of the individual countries that completed the U.S.
trounced in medal winnings. Why don't we just compete all of the Americas
as one medal winning entitiy then? Hey Canada, Mexico, El Salvador,
Guatamala, etc. you up for that?
Well... that may as well the "grand plan" of those giant corporations
that has funded the Olympics.... Coca Cola, Nike, Adidas,
MacDonald, etc. They just want to suck more money from the
population... more teams... more games ... next thing... they will do
it all year around instead of every 4 years.
Ever notice that a few decades ago professional hockey used to end
when the winter is over, and football or baseball season is over when
the summer is over? Now, they try to make it all year around! ...
more money for the sponsors!

Even better. The US should be allowed to enter 50 contestants or teems
