the pressures of the television audience wanting more and more dare
devil 'reality' type shows. He pushed the envelope over and over,
sometimes doing very foolish high risk stunts. It was only a matter of
time before something like this happened. The only odd thing is it was
a stingray, not a snake or crock.
A animal torturer is spelled HUNTER. Steve for sure wasn't that.

I always figured it would be a snake. I'd seem him handle
cobras and such - poorly - coming within a hairsbreadth of
getting bit. His survival was pure luck, not skill. Even
old Bill Haast from the Miami serpentarium has been bitten
many, many times ... and he's as pro as they come. Of
course they DO make antivenin right there ... which is a
big help.
A animal torturer is spelled HUNTER. Steve for sure wasn't that.
Hunting per-se isn't "torture" ... unless it's done
very badly. I get kinda pissed at the bow & arrow
hunters. THAT is a slow, painful death. A bullet
through the heart however ...
Hunting, here and now, is rarely NECESSARY - it's a
hobby. Just because it involves killing something
doesn't make it invalid or even cruel - unless you're
a serious bleeding-heart type who's seen Bambi WAY
too many times - but frankly it seems kinda pointless
to me. I haven't hunted in 25 years. Doesn't mean I
wouldn't again, but if I did it would probably be in
the context of a multi-week escape from civilization
where the food would be necessary.

I feel bad for Irwin's family and I kind of liked the guy too but he became
a "fucking idiot" and started believing his own shtick. I've seen
retrospectives of interviews the past couple of days and he started talking
about how he has a "special" connection with the animals and they
communicate with him in ways that other people can't see, yada, yada, yada.
He started sounding exactly like the "Grizzly Man", may *he* also rest in
peace. The stunt with the baby was fucking deplorably irresponsible and
exploitive. He didn't deserve what happened but drop the sainthood *****,
John. It's just stupid.

Irwin didn't make his name playing with cuddly koalas
and wallabies, he sought out the most dangerous animals
around and made a living teasing them and being the
"daredevil". Yes it was educational and great fun to
watch, but he assumed the risk that one of them someday
would nail him. The odds caught up with him, plain and simple.
