Srinagar, May 18 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, forceful protest
demonstrations were held today against Indian state terrorism at
various places.
The Chairman of Human Rights Forum, Muhammad Ahsan Untoo was arrested
along with some of his associates when they staged a protest sit-in
outside the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar. They were protesting
against custodial killings and other human rights violations by Indian
troops.
A protest march was taken out from Jablipora to Bijbehara town in
protest against the killing of a youth by India troops. The march was
led by APHC leader, Ghulam Nabi Sumji. Thousands of people attended
the funeral of the martyred youth. Indian troops resorted to heavy
lathi-charge and aerial firing to disperse the march. A big number of
the people took to the streets at Chaunsar in Kulgam where two youth
were martyred by Indian troops. The demonstration was led by Hurriyat
leaders, Hakeem Abdur Rashid, Muhammad Saleem Zargar and Farooq
Gotapori. Similar demonstrations were held at Batagund in Tral area.
People in Batamaloo area of Srinagar staged protests on the second day
today against the illegal arrests of civilians. All shops and business
establishments in the entire area remained closed. Indian police
personnel used tear-gas shells and lathis against the protestors.
Tension and panic continued in Down Town in Srinagar against the
demolition of an old mosque in the main Nowhatta Chowk.
