Fort Lewis Lieutenant Expected To Refuse To Deploy To Iraq
TACOMA, Wash. --
Anti-war groups say a Fort Lewis lieutenant will refuse to deploy when
his Stryker brigade is deployed this month to Iraq.
The group "Not in Our Name" and others say the officer, who has not
been named, will explain his refusal at a news conference Wednesday in
Tacoma.
In a statement set up by supporters, he says he refuses "to be party
to an illegal and immoral war against people who did nothing to
deserve our aggression."
A Fort Lewis spokeswoman had no comment.
The officer could be charged with desertion.
