Fox News' Ratings Take a Nosedive
By Alex Koppelman
Somewhere, Keith Olbermann is sticking pins in a Bill O'Reilly voodoo
doll:
Fox News' ratings, TVNewser reports, are down since August of last
year.
http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/ratings/aug_s_total_viewers_vs_aug_2005_42895.asp
Like, way down.
Like down 28 percent in primetime among all viewers, down 20 percent
in primetime in the "money demo" (viewers aged 25-54) and down 7
percent in daytime viewership overall.
In fact, the only place Fox is up is during the day, when they managed
a ratings increase of just 2 percent, and even then only in the money
demo.
And lest you think this is an industry-wide trend, consider this:
over the same time period, CNN and MSNBC are up.
CNN's up 35 percent during the day -- 46 percent in the money demo --
and up 21 percent in primetime overall, 25 percent in the money demo.
MSNBC's ratings increases aren't quite as impressive -- up 6 percent
in primetime overall, 8 percent in the money demo, and up 36 percent
in the money demo during the day, 26 percent overall.
We, of course, are Fair and Balanced here, so there won't be any
celebrating later tonight.
Certainly we will not be opening any champagne.
That would be wrong.

Gee Whiz you guys. Probably it's that pesky liberal media again,
messing things up. Or, maybe it's al kie da using their superior
communication methods to influence we ordinary folk.
Personally I lost all respect for Fox while listening to Hannity's
radio show recently when he thoroughly demeaned and berated a poor
woman in order to win a point for himself and thus prevail in the
telephone encounter. He did this because he did not like her comment.
I think he knew she was right and he couldn't take the heat. This is
the true Hannity I thought. If only he spent as much time doing
physical labor as he does in makeup before his show, maybe he'd
understand what being a "man" is all about.
I can't afford Champagne so I'll just open a beer. Cheers...

I don't know, I kindof like FOX News. They seem to be a little bit
less biased. Sometimes I feel like other channels put a slant on
things. Just a thought...

They are bit slanted to the right, but they are still closer to the center
than most of the rest of the main stream media! But since they are slightly
to the right, it just pisses off the left!

If a "bit" as you put it is around 15 parsecs and 2 light years, yes they
are a "bit" to the right, but slightly to the left of Attila the Hun.
Honestly, I only watch it when my options are limited, like at the waiting
room of the dealership while my car is getting checked out or at the gym
while I'm tread milling. At the dealership it was around October of 2004
and the Fox morning show was beyond pre-occupied with what Kerry did with
his Vietnam era medals 30 years prior.
To the unbiased Fox anchors, the rest of the world could have gotten hit by
an asteroid, but they had to repeat and repeat that there was a chance that
Kerry threw his medals into the Potomac in a protest run by the Vietnam
Veterans Against the War. Finally, they asked Joe Lieberman about Kerry's
medals. Lieberman had no idea what became of Kerry's medals thirty years
after they were awarded, but Lieberman was curious if Bush had any Vietnam
medals to show off. The Foxies immediately broke for a commercial, then
started to talk to some GOP congressmen about the whereabouts of Kerry's
medals.

Just exactly where is the "center", and who gets to identify it as such?
Is it something immutable, or does it change with the times and
circumstances? And given that the "main stream media" is 100% owned by
corporations, 0% owned by labor unions and only maybe 5% owned by
non-profits (if you include public broadcasting), how can it possibly be
left-biased? The truth is it has a strong corporate, elite bias.

I see, ever heard of outfoxed ?
Watch that show, then think about what you watch. All fox does is
tell you how unbiased they are, while being exactly the oppisite. Of
course over the past 5 years CNN and MSNBC have been becoming more FOX
like. :(

FOX News is so slanted, it's sideways. They have been doing nothing
lately except blaming black people for New Orleans.

Sounds like someone did not have his sarcasm detector on.
Honestly, if the message comes from a corporation, don't you discount as a
lie anyway?

Bush got elected. Twice. Probably more people would say that for real than
sarcastically.

Turn off the TV.
Several studies have found that people that get their news from FOX
score wrong answers on questions about Iraq and the war.
PIPA and Pew (Trends 2005) show the devide between fact-based media
and TV News, FOX being the worst.
