It's time for us conservatives to face facts. George W. Bush has pissed away
the conservative moment by pursuing a war of choice via policies that border
on the criminally incompetent. We control the White House, the Senate, the
House of Representatives, and (more-or-less) the judiciary for one of the
few times in my nearly 5 decades, but what have we really accomplished? Is
government smaller? Have we hacked away at the nanny state? Are the unborn
any more protected? Have we really set the stage for a durable conservative
majority?

You've done what conservatives actually are about. You've made a lot of
money for a tiny clique. All that other stuff has always been a joke.
You're a sucker, but so are Democrats.

Protect the unborn? Never! If the law were to be changed to outlaw abortion,
the republicans would lose many anti-abortion voters to the democrats.
The democrats would then be the majority party. But if the repubs still
have the abortion issue, the can promise action against abortion, and thereby
get the pro-life votes. They'll never strike down Roe v Wade.

I guess the $7.9 trillion question is just what will be left that can
be called conservative about the Republican party once this
administration has had its way with it for 8 years.
