Get Sick, Go Broke - unless you're an illegal alien |
I supposedly have a very good medical plan at work yet I STILL have
to pay over $400/month out-of-pocket (about the same amount that the
typical illegal alien ships out of the US to his home country monthly.)
Every time I go for an appointement at one of my HMO's hospitals it's
SWAMPED by illegal aliens -- typically, non-English-speaking couples
with four or more poorly-behaved kids in yow; often the woman is
pregnant with yet another baby.
And no doubt most who read this are well aware of the scores of U.S.
hospitals that have closed in recent years, bankrupted by non-paying
illegal aliens who due to a sick law are entitled to be treated --
regardless of expense -- at ANY hispital in the USA. (Lots of info on
this online; see especially Dr. Madeleine Cosman's "Illegal Aliens and
EMTALA" at http://www.rense.com/general63/emta.htm and elsewhere.) All
the illegals need do is provide one of their handy fake names and
addresses -- there's no way to verify the information they provide, of
course, which the illegals are well aware of -- and they literally
won't have to pay a penny for any treatment they receive.
And people wonder why hospitals are charging them $40 for a Band-aid,
$65 for a box of Kleenex, $300 for an in-room phone and other such wild
charges? One honest hospital administrator has openly admitted that
U.S. hospitals are gouging U.S. citizen patients in order to make up
for the non-paying illegal aliens they're required by law to treat (if
someone reading thishas that hospital administrator's statement handy
pease post it with a source URL.)

Get Sick, Go Broke
By Elizabeth Warren
8-26-6
Newsweek Online ran a strong story today about the impact of medical
problems on financial health. It began with 12-year-old Candace Jackson
who has $90,000 of medical bills not covered by insurance. Last week on
Warren Reports Matthew King's mom worried about running up against the
lifetime caps on their health insurance, with $1.5 million in medical
bills so far, and multiple surgeries in the future.
Candace and Matthew are today's headliners, but one in every five
families in America is dealing with unpaid medical bills. The see the
abyss.
So I have to ask: How many more Matthews and Candaces and millions of
other children and their parents and grandparents will have to go flat
busted over health care before someone leads us to real change? How
many will have to lose their homes? How many will have to file for
bankruptcy? How many will have to wake up in the night sick with fear
that they can't pay both the phone bill and the doctor bill?
The stories never stop. And the data back them up.
The Newsweek piece relies in part on my research with Drs. Himmelstein
and Woolhandler at the Harvard Medical School and Dr. Deborah Thorne at
Ohio University. We reported that about half of all bankruptcies
occurred in the financial aftermath of a medical problem. What really
chapped the insurance industry, however, was our finding that about
three-quarters of these families had some form of health insurance at
the onset of their illnesses or accidents. We concluded that not even
the insured were safe in America.
The insurance industry response did not respond by examining the
problem to find out what it was about their coverage that left families
so vulnerable. (Perhaps they already knew the answer?) Instead, the
industry hired someone to try to make our data "controversial."
Professor Melissa Jacoby and I re-analyzed those data, and we tried to
isolate every complaint from the industry so that readers could review
the data themselves, but the results came out the same: medical
problems were connected to about half of the bankruptcy filings.
There is surely no one left in America who doesn't have a cousin or a
neighbor or a dear friend who hasn't been put in the financial
cross-hairs by an illness. Even business owners are starting to worry
about footing their share of the bill. So why isn't this the number one
political issue in America today? Why aren't politicians who are
nervous about their jobs hanging onto this issue like a life raft? Why
aren't ambitious job-seekers who want to unseat those politicians
shouting from the rafters that they will push for a serious,
comprehensive plan to help ordinary Americans deal with the fallout
from a serious medical problem? I guarantee that one in five Americans
would be listening. And their cousins and neighbors and dear friends.
While the insurance industry tries to direct attention elsewhere, and
while the politicians talk in half-measures or no measures at all,
millions more families-families like Matthew's and Candace's-cannot
wake up from their financial nightmares.
I can't keep reading these stories and looking at the pictures of these
children. When does it stop?

Don't Get Sick, Go Broke Anyway
Jim Mortellaro
8-26-6
There was a recent piece on Rense.Com entitled "Get Sick, Go Broke."
Well, this piece has a different title. Allow me the liberty (something
we Americans appear to be losing day by day) of explaining what my
title means.
First, my real title is Prince Morty, Without Portfolio. PMWP
Now that we've dispensed with that, we shall repair to the title of
this piece. "Don't Get Sick, Go Broke Anyway." I buy health HMO
insurance. Every year like clock work, the amount per month increases
by ten percent. TEN PERCENT DAMMIT!
Sorry, the debil made me write that. Ten percent is not a lot, taken
all by itself. However add it up over a ten year period and ... you got
the title. I now pay more than $2500 a *month* for my medical
insurance. This is just for myself and my wifey and does not include
our child's health insurance. Uh ... I mean our baby, which is not a
child, exactly. He's a doggy. A French Bulldoggy. Pure bred. Always
sick. The little *****.
His insurance costs me more than $400 a year. Bringing it all back
home, I shell out (are you sitting down?) I shell out "Thirty-Thousand
Dollars a Year" for our health insurance not counting the doggy. Thirty
Grand. That, folks, is more than my mortgage which is about $24,000 a
year.
Bringing *that* all back home, I spend FIFTY-THOUSAND DOLLARS ($50,000)
before I feed my family, pay the electric bill or buy (GAG!) gasoline.
And if you live up here in the MortyVille area, you use your car a lot.
Just to going off for a pack of cigarettes costs me about $6.00.
Correct. About a galooon of gas and five bucks for a pack a butts.
Naturally I don't go out for 'just' a pack a butts. No. I go out when
the list is full and I absolutely, positively MUST go out or we starve
tomorrow.
Now, how do you like them apples?
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!
Here in the state of Nueva York (we changed the name recently in order
to accommodate our new population of illegal immigrunts), here in Nueva
York, our Senators are Hillary Rotten and Chucky Schmucky. I wrote
both. Emails. Letters. Certified, return receipt requested, the works.
Wanna know what the response was?
Nuttin, Honeys. Nuttin'!
When D'Mato was Senator and you wrote to him, hell, even CALLED his
office, you got results. Now ... nuttin. And frankly, I have to wonder
at why our Nueva York Population continues to support people who do
nothing whatsoever to support their constituency. Hillary, of all
people, the champion of the common man, the champion of public health,
the woman who wants to be (gag me with a spoon!) president ... does
nothing for her people.
With more than 35 emails, ten letters and 5 or so certified mails over
a period of two years, I've gotten not one word from our Senators. God
help us but why they are in office eludes me. Maybe it's me. Or, maybe
it's the Democrat (that's right, D E M O C R A T) party is more than
strange. Their venue should be named, "Very Strange Daiz Indeed."
*"So the moral of this story, the moral of this song, is that one
should never be, where one does not belong." And Senators Schumer and
Clinton do not belong in office. They belong in the museum of unnatural
elected representatives. **"And may their eyes be forever black."
They are. But I hadda say it. The (*) is from a Dylan song. The latter
quote (**) is from DUNE.
Frank Herbert had it right when he wrote, "There is always a way to
water." In the context of the story of DUNE. Taking that in more modern
times, "There is always a way to order." And the order of the day is to
vote the selfish bastards the hell out of office.
I remain,
Dr. James S. Mortellaro, AKA, Morty
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
