Olbermann: Giuliani never gave a thought to terrorism before 9/11

MSNBC's Keith Olbermann reported Wednesday on Rudy Giuliani's recent
claim that even though the first attack on the World Trade Center in
1993 was "virtually ignored by President Clinton," he himself was aware
that "bin Laden declared war on us ... but a lot of people didn't see it."
"It's a claim made all the more puzzling since he specifically defended
Bill Clinton's counter-terrrorism efforts only last September,"
commented Olbermann. "And by the way, he became mayor of the city in
which the World Trade Center stood ten months after it was first
attacked, and he didn't do a damn thing to heighten counter-terrorism."
Olbermann was joined by Wayne Barrett of the Village Voice, who said
Giuliani never mentioned the 1993 bombing in his eight years as mayor,
except for one metaphorical use in his inaugural address in reference to
the welfare system. Giuliani never held a multi-agency drill at the
World Trade Center or replaced the firefighters' radios that had
malfunctioned in 1993, and he even located his control center in one of
the WTC buildings.
Giuliani also never discussed terrorism with the US Attorney or Deputy
Attorneys in his district. According to Barrett, "He wrote in his own
book, Leadership, that after 9/11 he calls up Henry Kissinger and says,
'What should I read about this guy Osama bin Laden?'"
Barrett further pointed out that Giuliani has been presenting himself as
a Catholic who is estranged from the Church only because of his stand
over abortion. However, says Barrett, the truth is that having been
divorced without getting an annulment from the Church, Giuliani "cannot
be a practicing Catholic."
