What is wrong with a person identifying with his ancestors, cultures and
specific race?
Time-Warner pulled a Country&Western song by Holly Dunn called, "When I Say
No I Mean Maybe" because feminists complained that it promoted date rape,
while they kept the song "Cop Killer" on sale saying it was Ice T's 1st
Amendment right to promote the assassination of law enforcement officers. At
Time-Warner, the 1st Amendment only protects Politically Correct Speech.

extraterritorial- they operate under their own laws, not those of the
state, and have their own police as a result.

I think you are following a common misunderstanding of the meaning of
the term "American" in this case. Citizens of the United States have
long called themselves "Americans" as a more practical alternative to
"United Statesians", playing on the national title "Uniited States of
America".
What "Native Americans" are refering to is the continental distinction
"The Americas" (i.e. North and South America). They are saying their
native ancestory is American, just at a Caucasian's native ancestory is
typically European, a black persons native ancestory is African, etc.
In truth, a citizen of the United States could in fact call himself a
native-American, but it would have a completely different meaning that
the term when applied to American Indians.
