WASHINGTON--
Federal Reserve Board chairman Alan Greenspan issued one of his
toughest warnings yet to Congress yesterday about the danger of
letting the country's giant budget deficits persist, saying "the
consequences for the U.S. economy of doing nothing could be severe."
