Gun control in Illinois: A small beginning |
From The Associated Press, 5/9/07:
http://www.wqad.com/Global/story.asp?S=6492473&nav=1sW7
Senate OK's ban on high-capacity gun magazines
SPRINGFIELD, Ill.
The Illinois Senate today voted to ban gun magazines that hold more
than ten rounds of ammunition.
Park Ridge Democratic Senator Dan Kotowski (kuh-TOW'-skee) says the
legislation could prevent tragedies like the April 16th massacre at
Virginia Tech University.
The Senate voted 31-to-26 to send the bill to the House.
Republicans argued a ban on so-called high-capacity magazines would do
nothing to curb violence but would drive Illinois gun manufacturers
out of state.
Democrats control both houses of the Legislature but have had
difficulty getting approval for gun-control measures because of
opposition from downstate sportsmen.

So, when does the Illinois legislature plan on passing funding to
build the 10 foot wall around the entire state? How about passing
funding to check every vehicle that comes in the state to see if
anyone is carrying those "illegal" gun magazines? Or checking every
package that comes into the state of Illinois in case someone is
shipping those "illegal" gun magazines into the state?
This ban is nothing but lip service to the hysterical masses and a
transparent attempt to garner political points for "reacting" to a
"problem". It does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to protect the common citizen on
the street. I'm sure Joe Crazy Shooter is going to follow the letter
of the law when he buys his "illegal" gun magazines out of state or on
the internet. Good luck prosecuting Joe Crazy for the gun magazine
"ban" AFTER he's already used his ILLEGAL gun magazines to kill 35
people.
Not nice, not even a beginning.

Cute. This is the response the gun weirdos love to do, they are actually
good, clean living 'muricans. Yep, well Cho was a good, clean living
'murican until that first shot. Yep, Cho bought a bunch of large capacity
magazines, one reason is he wanted to kill a bunch of people and the other
is that it was so simple, just e-mail makers on the internet.
The above poster is a weirdo who loves guns more than anything. A brief
look at Freuds views on fire arms and you'll be heading for the woods,
yelling.

So you actually admit that this Illinois ban is nothing but a bunch of

So DRINK UP me hearties! Let's pass more gun ban laws that criminals
can continue to ignore...

I am quite sure that the next nut job that goes ape on campus, or elsewhere,
will pay strict attention to the legalities of high capacity magazines.
So he goes on a rampage with a full bag of extra clippos.
Why is it that anti-gun liberals keep coming up with solutions to everyday
problems that put such unusual pressures on the nation's nut jobs?
Like they have so much to keep track of before they can run out and kill
everyone. Federal laws against conspiracies, state laws against killing
folks.
They have to remember to buy plenty of bullets. They have to remember to
load the bullets into the magazines - being careful not to put more than 10
of them in each one.
They have to remember where it was that they can go to kill the most
people - and make sure those people are going to be there so they can get
killed.
Then there is parking, and worrying if they put enough money in the meters.

"Nice"?
In what way?
This is nothing but politicians again demonstrating how ignorant they think
the citizens of the US really are.
This law does nothing to make anyone any safer in any way.
If a gunman wanted to carry 100 rounds of ammunition, he would, under this
proposed law, have to carry 10 magazines with 10 rounds each, as opposed to 5
magazines with 20 rounds each.
It takes less than 5 seconds to change magazines and the gunman at Virginia
Tech University reloaded a number of times so this proposed law would have
prevented nothing.
In what way does that make anyone safer?
In what way is this "nice"?

See B. Obama's state senate record by going to ilga.gov/senate, hit previous
general assemblies and start with the 1997 session (90), hit list and look
for obama. It may be possible to find his voting record on all bills.
He is very close to many Republicans in his positions based on his votes.

On the other hand Amadou Diallo was riddled by 41 slugs
