The bill was passed by Congress. It hasn't been sent yet to Bush to
sign or veto. The clock on a pocket veto apparently doesn't start until
the White House receives the bill.

Bush's pro-amnesty and high legal immigration position is one of the
very worst policy positions he has. Unfortunately, the Democrats almost
across the board are as bad or worse. The Senate amnesty bill after all
was the McCain-Kennedy bill.

The opposition to illegal alien amnesties and legal immigration
increases comes from rank and file Republicans, not Democrats. The rep
from Colorado, who was almost certainly Tancredo, is correct. The
Republican leadership can't push amnesties too hard because their party
is split on it. The Democratic leadership has no such problem. A
takeover of Congress by the Democratic party does greatly increase the
chances of an amnesty.
