Has Bush's boyhood idol, Barney Fife, influenced his life? |
I read recently that as a boy George Bush's favorite entertainer was
Don Knotts, and he even named his pet dog after the Barney Fife
character from the old television series, Andy Griffith. I checked,
and he really did name his dog Barney.
I can see how George "connects" with the Barney character, as there are
amazing similarities between the character played by Knotts and the one
played on the national stage by George Bush, Jr. Do you think that
Bush's fascination with Barney Fife has influenced the personality of
George?

He probably liked Knotts like I liked Mr. Haney on "Green Acres".
An entertainment caricature as a diversion from doing homework.
Don Knotts in "No Time for Sergeants".........a classic for
those who missed it ;-)

An underrated, almost forgotten film. A bit hokey for
todays 'sophisticated' audiences ...

Shows how many movies I watch. My favorites are
"Emperor of the North", and "Paper Moon".
If you're a true Don Knotts or Andy Griffith fan : Griffith
does Gomer Pyle better than Gomer does and Knotts's
5 minute appearance in "No Time for Sergeants" is
worth the watch, imo...anyway.

"Barney Fife" was a very nervous person - but a DECENT
and CARING person who always tried to do his best. Not
the worst boyhood idol by far. An odd one, true, but
not a bad one.

Hard to tell - what we see of politicians is just a well-crafted
and polished exterior.

To compare George W. Bush to Barney Fife is a little harsh- to Barney Fife.
Barney Fife was a meek mild fellow who had a decent soul and who always
tried to do the right things, though sometimes through a misguided view. He
had an innate intelligence about him even though he was often a buffon. He
was above all, an honest gentle soul.
Better to compare Bush to the neighborhood bully who thinks he is entitled
to the little guy's milk money because he's big enough to take it.

Better to compare Bush to Gomer Pyle with the difference being Gomer
had a brain.
