BP second-quarter profit rises 29 pct on surging oil prices

LONDON (AFP) - British oil giant BP posted a solid rise in second-quarter
net profit, buoyed by record high crude prices and improved refining
margins.
Net profit at BP, including exceptional items, jumped 29 percent to 4.981
billion dollars (4.136 billion euros) for the three months to June 30,
compared with 4.624 billion for the same period the previous year.
