I don't worship Tim Russert, but I have to say:
Meet the Press provides one of the few instances of decent political
coverage in the media, including major newsmags (Time/Newsweek) and the
major "serious" newpapers.
He may push a bit for hot soundbites, but at least he lets the guests answer
and appears to listen and understand what they say.

I disagree, many of those beltway journalists are simply coroprate
lapdogs.
Why arent they asking the hard questions, why didn't they hold Bush's
feet to the fire in regard to Iraq, they KNEW it was calculated...
They're too close to the politicians, they should be antagonists, not
partners.
Journalism should be a public service, about the truth.
I've been reading about david simon, the creator of the HBO series "
the wire." he was a journalist at the Baltimore Sun, and he speaks of
the papers decline, the corporations turnig the papers into vehicles
of profit and glory, as opposed to protectors of the public trust.
Should be enlightening, what he has to say, he highlights the whole
problem with corporate ownership of the media, and it's effect on the
political process.
And he's mad, too.

People who make these idiotic claims do only because they're so damn
partisan they can't tolerate anything said that disagrees with their
own viewpoint.
The Repubs ***** the media is too liberal. The Dems ***** the media
is too corporate. You're BOTH nuts.
The core faithful of both parties have turned into foolish zealots,
It's sickening and not good for the country.
For years the Repubs told us that Bill Clinton would utterly RUIN the
country and make it more socialist than the USSR ever was. Actually
the country worked out pretty well during his presidency. For years
the Dems told us Bush would cancel elections, invade half the world,
etc. He didn't.
Political advertisements ought to be illegal on TV. That would
eliminate the obsessive fund raising that causes this grief and force
canddiates to focus on the issues. It could cut back on the too-long
election season. The election is a YEAR AWAY and already we're going
nuts about this stuff.
One thing good about the classic Sunday morning news shows is that
they're usually more than just a sound bite, canddiates get to talk a
little bit with the chance to say something substantive (or stupid).
Of course the probelm with Americans is that such shows are too boring
and few watch them, preferring to get their news from MTV bikini hunks
and bimbos.
