DHS Ranks District as Low Risk of Terror Attack
Friday June 02, 2006
WASHINGTON (AP) -
You might think of the District as a likely target for a terrorist
attack, but now the Department of Homeland Security ranks it as one of
the cities at lowest risk.
The decision will cost the city almost $5 million in anti-terror
funds.
That's on top of a reduction of $30.5 million for the D.C. region
announced earlier this week in program that funds anti-terror efforts
in urban areas.
Homeland Security officials say the District has far fewer potential
targets than places like California.
Although the District is home to the White House, the Capitol, FBI
headquarters and national monuments, it received a smaller state grant
than Montana, Hawaii, Utah and Rhode Island.
