When you consider all the social problems like drunk driving and
domestic abuse and job absenteeism caused by alcohol, it only seems fair
that these sickos should pay up big time. I'm no coddler.

Increasing taxes may work for products like tobacco, but not alcohol. Too
easy to make.
Increase the taxes on alcohol sufficiently, and you'll have bootleg
operations springing up all over again. Just as the 18th Amendment
illustrated.

Increases in tobacco taxes have also led to significant increases in
crime. 10-15 years ago, Canada backed down from a massive increase in
their tobacco taxes after black market cigarettes smuggled from the US
led to revenue decreases and in the US, tax increases consistently lead
to increased black market cigarette sales as well as increases in
strong-arm robberies of convenience stores.

Good thing I prefer to buy my beer in bottles - plus it's so much more
satisfying to throw them out of my car than it is to toss out those
wimpy aluminum cans.
Have you ever tried to break the windshield of the cop car chasing you
with an empty beer CAN? It's impossible - the only way to do it with a
can is if it's still full and that would be alcohol abuse to toss a full
beer out of your car.

If she had a brain in her head she could see how "sin tax" does not
work anyhow. Just check the price of cigarretes. Over $5 (almost all
of it taxes) a pack and it doesn't stop people from smoking.

I know more about that than you do. Big reason booze is not taxed more
than it is, is because the industry pays congressmen not to raise taxes.

What $1.00 extra per can? Sounds good to me I will just continue to
buy bottles.
Plus, your idea sounds discriminatory, because many people don't drink
and drive. I for one enjoy a cold beer in my own home on a hot day. I
haven't been to a bar in 25+ years, never had a dui, because I never
drink and drive. But Thanks for your phony concern.
It would make more sense, that those who have been caught, in the past
for a DUI , pay the $1.00 extra anytime they buy a beer.

Hey, if the previous poster isn't telling you that drunk driving is

Even better is when you mix in other intoxicants, and perhaps a cell
