Object: How To Eliminate Afghan Opium Poppy Crop
Afghanistan produces 92% of the world's opium, the sale of which
provides $1 billion to the Taliban! The Afghan government is too weak
to conduct an effective eradication program. What we need is a fast way
to kill the opium poppy crop. I propose that the U.S. government
commission Monsanto to produce a genetically engineered virus designed
to kill opiumpoppies and nothing else, then spray that virus on all the
poppy fields, thus wiping out the opium poppy crop in one fell
swoop!!!!!

Simpler solution:
Legalize narcotics. Regulate and tax them like alcohol.
The profits then go to legitimate businesses and taxes go to government,
instead of funding terrorists and criminals.
It's the same situation as alcohol prohibition, when Al Capone and the
boys were the only real beneficiaries.
See:
"Gary Becker, 1992 Nobel laureate in economics, has joined with Richard
A. Posner, judge on the US 7th Circuit Court of Appeals and Senior
Lecturer at the University of Chicago Law School, to point out the
destructive effects of drug prohibition. This includes an economic
analysis of why drug prohibition has failed and will continue to fail:

The Failure of the War on Drugs-BECKER"
He thus joins Milton Friedman (Nobel prize in economics 1976), the ACLU,
and all other sensible persons who have called for drug legalization.
