Object: Hundreds of Army soldiers get a bill from George W. Bush after being wounded at war
For Injured U.S. Troops, 'Financial Friendly Fire'
Flaws in Pay System Lead to Dunning, Credit Trouble
By Donna St. George
Washington Post Staff Writer
His hand had been blown off in Iraq, his body pierced by shrapnel. He
could not walk. Robert Loria was flown home for a long recovery at
Walter Reed Army Medical Center, where he tried to bear up against
intense physical pain and reimagine his life's possibilities.
The last thing on his mind, he said, was whether the Army had
correctly adjusted his pay rate -- downgrading it because he was out
of the war zone -- or whether his combat gear had been accounted for
properly: his Kevlar helmet, his suspenders, his rucksack.
But nine months after Loria was wounded, the Army garnished his wages
and then, as he prepared to leave the service, hit him with a $6,200
debt. That was just before last Christmas, and several lawmakers
scrambled to help. This spring, a collection agency started calling.
He owed another $646 for military housing.
"I was shocked," recalled Loria, now 28 and medically retired from the
Army. "After everything that went on, they still had the nerve to ask
me for money."...

Is it any surprise? Bush hates soldiers who serve in combat, because the
remind him of his own cowardice.

Since WWII, exactly how many Democratic Presidents have there been.
Eisenhower Republican 1953-1961 7 years
Kennedy Democrat 1961-1963 1 year 10 months
Johnson Democrat 1963-1969 6 years
Nixon Republican 1969-1974 4 years
Ford Republican 1974-1977 3 years
Carter Democrat 1977-1981 4 years
Reagan Republican 1981-1989 8 years
Bush sr. Republican 1989-1993 4 years
Clinton Republican 1993-1999 8 years
Bush Republican 1999-2005 5 years
31 years 20 years
Have I missed any? It looks to me that the Republican Party Controlled the
Presidency for 30 years out of 51. It seems the Republicans have had much
more time in office and should have been the ones to make the necessary
changes. But of course it would be improper for a businessmen to pay
reasonable costs.

so in your 'logic', since no democratic president did anything about it,
because they weren't in office as much, therefore it is the fault of
republicans? You cannot blame one or the other, you got to blame both.
You libs cannot have it both ways!

That's right! The fact that Bush personally is the stupidest and most
vicious pig ever to enter American public life does not prove that he
engineered the US-planned coups and massacres in Nicaragua, Guatemala,
DR Congo, Indonesia, Dominican Republic, Iran, and others too numerous
to mention without running out of breath that have been the fruit of
American military culture for the past century.
The world will doubtless be a better place when you're all gone. If we
can recover from the damage you've caused.

This has been standard ops for the military since wwII. Then why
haven't
any of the great dem presidents reversed this, why is it GWB's fault?

It's standard to bill troops for their treatment????

The point is that this is not a bush policy, it is a military policy. Not
saying that it is right, it's not. But you cannot just blame Bush for
this.
