IBM cuts 1570 jobs in tech services unit in U.S.
http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/68046.html
NEW YORK: International Business Machines Corp. announced Wednesday
it has cut some 1,570 jobs, mostly in its technology services unit
in the United States, as part of its cost-cutting program.
A spokesperson for the company said most of the jobs to go were
in North America and the affected workers were notified Wednesday.
With this trimming, the total number of jobs lost comes to
3,700 this year. Earlier this year, the company laid off 1,300 workers
in the U.S. services business.
The company spokesperson said the job cuts this year
had been necessitated by customers cutting down
services contracts.
He clarified the affected jobs are not being shifted to
lower-cost countries.
He refused to say anything on further job cuts this year.
The company has taken 14,000 new workers globally
this year, he added.

Unfortunately, his "clarification" didn't make mention of the fact that IBM
had already sold its hard disk drive manufacturing division to
Japanese-based Hitachi. Since that was the sale of an entire division to a
foreign concern, it wasn't considered as jobs "being shifted", and the U.S.
jobs lost when Hitachi moved most of the division to Japan weren't
considered jobs lost by IBM. Slick PR duck!

Man there's a hell of a Democratic 30-second '08 commercial going
there...just run clips of Bush saying 6 little words "the American economy is
great!"...
Then run BIG BOLD lettters across the screen "IBM cuts 1570 jobs"
Bush clip: "the American economy is great!"...
"Motorola fires 7,500 workers"
Bush clip: "the American economy is strong!"...
"Dell Kicks 8,000 Employees to the Curb"
Bush clip: "the American economy is great!"...
"Mega-Merger to Create Biggest EU Bank, 13,000 Lost Jobs"
Bush clip: "the American economy is strong!"...
"legislation has provision for increasing H1B visa allocation from
the current 65,000 to 115,000"
Bush clip: "the American economy is great!"...
"Bush Outsources Public-Sector Jobs During Public Service"
I'm sure there are much better examples and if the job loss TV announcement
clips could be found that would be even better...like GM axing what?
30-35,000 too? The FULL list would probably make a 5-minute commercial...
Anyone with a connection to the DNC ad committees should pass this little
***White-(House)-lie*** "truthie" along ; )

The bleeding from the american economic jugular continues...
All for the sake of neocon 'free traders' and new world order
traitors.
Whatever money they lose - is transferred to the pockets of ruthless
and greedy robbers.
There is a limited opportunity window here, to semi-organize all laid
off IT workers into a PAC to bring their greivances in front of a
national audience... by continually dangling the issues in front of
the 2008 candidates...democrats as well as republican.
Unless a focused effort is made, I suspect that every neocon-vetted
puppet candidate will duck the issue and continue to preside over a
hollowed-out economy which will only bring inevitable economic
collapse and hardships for everyone.
Someone must make the neoconning bastards accountable for the
destruction of americans' legitimate expectations of a sustainable
economy.

Oh, you're sooo funny! However, you forgot to mention they're not making
buggywhips in China or India either. But they are making computers,
software and disk drives. It has nothing to do with competitive
advantage and everything to do with wage arbitrage and exchange rates.
