I don't know if this is relevant but, to quote English novelist's
Edward Morgan Foster
"If I had to choose between betraying my country and betraying my
friend, I hope I should have the guts to betray my country."

What do you mean by "to be put right?"

Be specific.

You'll have to be more specific with your question,
since I'm not willing to answer a line with an essay.
What are you interested in? Foriegn policy?
Education? Civil rights? The political process?
The media? Popular culture? Pick one - or, if
you're interesting, maybe even two.

What areas need to be "put right?"

Is that clear enough?

How rich, coming from someone who offers
little more than insults and name-calling to
every thread he's in.
I simply know who I'm talking to, Worries - it
took very little Googling to become aware of your
limitations. I've stated the rules under which I'm
willing to play, they're quite simple, you can either
play or continue your whining about surrenders and
sidesteps. Either way, my amusement is
assured.
Pick your topic, Worries. If you're interesting,
we can pick another one. If you don't want to
pick a topic, then you'll simply get no response
and I'll laugh while you scrawl a "victory" in your
little book where you keep your delusions of
adequacy.
Here's your chance to chalk one up in the win
column, Worries. I know you can't resist. :-)

I thought about starting a thread like this once. My prediction as to
the responses would be a lot of dodging by the right wing. They don't
want to say yes, because that would be unpatriotic, and don't want to
say no because that is a position of complete immorality.
The US lost my support with torture and aggressive militarism. They
seem to be adopting the same policies as Imperial Japan, and I'm not
going to support that. I've moved out of the US and don't pay any
taxes there.
I have not completely given up on the US and expect things to go back
to the way they were, but that may be just stupid sentimentalism.

Pat, thank you for your candor. I think many Americans echo your beliefs and
sentiments. Most of the people on the planet would like to see the US go
back to being the beacon of freedom that it once was; but the past 6 years
have marked a very dark time that has all but extinguised our hope for the
Republic. Some have said that our democratic experiment is dead. I don't
think it's dead; but it needs help.
I know that my tax dollars are being used for repressive, imperialist and
even quasi-genocidal actions that are not in any way defending America from
a credible threat. Our own leaders are selling out America for 30 pieces of
silver, and dismantling our Constitutional protections. With a plainly
imperialist agenda, fragile economic stability, and intrusions bordering on
a police state, what has America become?
I have not yet expatriated, but I am definitely looking at that as an option
right now.
