Impeach Bush - By Garrison Keillor |
Impeach Bush
The man was lost and then he was found and now he's more lost than ever
-- and he's taking us into the darkness with him. It's time to remove
him.
By Garrison Keillor
Mar. 01, 2006 | These are troubling times for all of us who love this
country, as surely we all do, even the satirists. You may poke fun at
your mother, but if she is belittled by others it burns your bacon. A
blowhard French journalist writes a book about America that is full of
arrogant stupidity, and you want to let the air out of him and mail him
home flat. You hear young people talk about America as if it's all
over, and you trust that this is only them talking tough. And then you
read the paper and realize the country is led by a man who isn't paying
attention, and you hope that somebody will poke him. Or put a sign on
his desk that says, "Try Much Harder."
Do we need to impeach him to bring some focus to this man's life? The
man was lost and then he was found and now he's more lost than ever,
plus being blind.
The Feb. 27 issue of the New Yorker carries an article by Jane Mayer
about a loyal conservative Republican and U.S. Navy lawyer, Albert
Mora, and his resistance to the torture of prisoners at Guant=E1namo
Bay. From within the Pentagon bureaucracy, he did battle against Donald
Rumsfeld and John Yoo at the Justice Department and shadowy figures
taking orders from ***** (Gunner) Cheney, arguing America had ratified
the Geneva Convention that forbids cruel, inhumane and degrading
treatment of prisoners, and so it has the force of law. They seemed to
be arguing that the president has the right to order prisoners to be
tortured.
One such prisoner, Mohammed al-Qahtani, was held naked in isolation
under bright lights for months, threatened by dogs, subjected to
unbearable noise volumes, and otherwise abused, so that he begged to be
allowed to kill himself. When the Senate approved the Torture
Convention in 1994, it defined torture as an act "specifically intended
to inflict severe physical or mental pain or suffering." Is the law a
law or is it a piece of toast?
Wiretap surveillance of Americans without a warrant? Great. Go for it.
How about turning over American ports to a country more closely tied to
9/11 than Saddam Hussein was? Fine by me. No problem. And what about
the war in Iraq? Hey, you're doing a heck of a job, Brownie. No need to
tweak a thing. And your blue button-down shirt -- it's you.
But torture is something else. When Americans start pulling people's
fingernails out with pliers and poking lighted cigarettes into their
palms, then we need to come back to basic values. Most people agree
with this, and in a democracy that puts the torturers in a delicate
position. They must make sure to destroy their e-mails and have
subordinates who will take the fall. Because it is impossible to keep
torture secret. It goes against the American grain and it eats at the
conscience of even the most disciplined, and in the end the truth will
come out. It is coming out now.
According to the leaders of the bipartisan 9/11 Commission, our country
is practically as vulnerable today as it was on 9/10. Our seaports are
wide open, our airspace is not secure except for the nation's capital,
and little has been done about securing the nuclear bomb materials
lying around in the world. They give the administration D's and F's in
most categories of defending against terrorist attack.
Our adventure in Iraq, at a cost of trillions, has brought that country
to the verge of civil war while earning us more enemies than ever
before. And tax money earmarked for security is being dumped into pork
barrel projects anywhere somebody wants their own SWAT team. Detonation
of a nuclear bomb within our borders -- pick any big city -- is a real
possibility, as much so now as five years ago. Meanwhile, many
Democrats have conceded the very subject of security and positioned
themselves as Guardians of Our Forests and Benefactors of Waifs and
Owls, neglecting the most basic job of government, which is to defend
this country. We might rather be comedians or daddies or tattoo artists
or flamenco dancers, but we must attend to first things.
The peaceful lagoon that is the White House is designed for the comfort
of a vulnerable man. Perfectly understandable, but not what is needed
now. The U.S. Constitution provides a simple ultimate way to hold him
to account for war crimes and the failure to attend to the country's
defense. Impeach him and let the Senate hear the evidence.

Hasn't that already been done? We already did that with Clinton. Man,
this guy is sure behind the times.

So, Gomer, you think a ***** is a war crime? Have you considered evolving

So, Gomer, you think a ***** is a war crime? Have you considered evolving
into a human being? Ever?
So, Barney Fife, who has been accused or convicted of a war crime? I
know of a President that was accused, convicted and impeached, for lying
to a GRAND JURY? Not for a *****. Facts Barney, try to keep up with
the facts. Not delusional fairy tales.
Hey, Barney, you should get out of Mayberry more often. *****, I thought

The Gomer reference is not from Mayberry. It is medical slang for a
demented patient, unable to care for him/her self and close to death.
If you are unaware that George Bush has been accused of war crimes, then you
are not paying much attention. There is little comparison between a sex act
and an unprovoked attack on a govern nation resulting in more than 100,000
civilian casualties. If you think they are equivalent, then you've
obviously never had a *****.

The Gomer reference is not from Mayberry. It is medical slang for a

The reference of Barney Fife is from Mayberry. It is a representation of
who you are. A dumb hillbilly that cannot tell the difference between
facts and delusional thinking.
If you are unaware that George Bush has been accused of war crimes, then you
are not paying much attention.
Accused by who? Desperate, vindictive numb-nuts on the left, like
yourself? I have been paying attention and I haven't heard ANY
prosecutor or anyone that matters, bring such charges. Only ridiculous
accusations from assholes on the left.
There is little comparison between a sex act and an unprovoked attack
on a govern nation resulting in more than 100,000 civilian casualties.
The difference is, that the sex act resulted in an accusation,
conviction and impeachment of a President, for lying to a grand jury
under oath. It is called Perjury By A President Of The United States Of
America. The other is called war. In case you have forgotten or are not
aware of what that is, is a place where you're going to have casualties
and it takes a real leader to make such a monumental decisions to
implement. Not like our previous President who was too busy covering his
*****, as to whether people would find out, about his actions in the Oval
Office.
If you think they are equivalent, then you've obviously never had a *****.
If you think that they are, then you need one so you could think clearly.

OK, Gomer, back to square one, then I'm moving on ... Garrison Keillor, a
saner man than most, has advanced the opinion that George Bush should be
impeached and that, among other things, Bush is, in Keillor's judgment,
guilty of war crimes. I, like many Americans, value Keillor's opinion, and
agree that Bush should be impeached. I also agree with Keillor's belief
that Bush is guilty of war crimes. Keillor represents "Lake Woebegone", not
"Mayberry". That is the theme of this thread.
As to Clinton, in my opinion, he should have had a good ***** kicking from
Monica's father, and that should have been the end of it. I am not, and
never have been a Clinton fan.
Your only point seems to be that Keillor's judgment is invalid because a
Democrat president attempted to cover up a sexual relationship. This is not
a logical statement, or a particularly convincing one. The fact that you
still believe this suggests that you are one of those fools who never learn
from experience and that any further discussion with you is a total waste of
my time.

What do you expect from an amoral cretin who thinks lying about a ***** which
got nobody wounded or killed is worse than lying about weapons of mass
destruction in order to get thousands killed based upon that lie....among other

Accused by who?
WHOM? WHOM?? Obviously we're not listening to a person with
an education above 4th grade.
There is little comparison between a sex act and an unprovoked attack
on a govern nation resulting in more than 100,000 civilian casualties.
The difference is, that the sex act resulted in an accusation,
conviction and impeachment of a President, for lying to a grand jury
under oath. It is called Perjury By A President Of The United States Of
America.
Note that when Clinton went off accidentally, there were no
casualties,
NOT EVEN a little birdshot in the face of a political friend.
The other is called war. In case you have forgotten or are not
aware of what that is, is a place where you're going to have casualties
and it takes a real leader to make such a monumental decisions to
implement.
Hmmm. "is, is" .... just a touch of illiteracy here...... maybe
somebody
who just swam the Rio Grande......
WAR?? WAR??
Jeezus X Krist, you're no idea what war is.
This asshead president -- who was so scared he hid behind the
National
Guard when we DID have a war -- would'nt know a war if he was banged in
the ***** with one.
First WAR has to be declared by Congress. There was NO ACT OF WAR
declared by Congress.
Furthermore, a real war requires SACRIFICE. This asshead president
has required no sacrifices (except for the few families who
volunteered)
beyond a "Support the Troops" sticker on the SUV.
I remember WW II as a kid when Sugar, Meat, Shoes, Tires, Gasoline
etc were RATIONED. I remember when to PAY FOR THE WAR there were
bond sale drives, drives to collect scrap metal, scrap paper (with
which ti
pack ammunition -- I remember people were urged to even contribute to
the paper drive Christmas wrapping paper after Xmas was over).
This asshead sent everyone who would volunteer, turned his back on
the by (1) refusing to properly armor their bodies and their vehicles
and
(2) refusing to try to enlist the support of the people to PAY for the
war.
Instead he used the war as a BANK for CONTRACTORS who were
campaign fundraiser.
And instead of raising taxes, as happened when we are in a REAL
WAR, he turned his attention to CUTTING TAXES, but mostly for
his rich campaign contributors, not for ordinary people, soldiers and
their families.....
It makes me ill when this asshead COWARD we have as a president
claims we are at WAR and he is a LEADER. Note that when things
went to Hell last week in Iraq, he never talked about leadership.
Instead of talking about "bringing Democracy to Iraq" (and his taking
credit for it) he now is saying, "Well the Iraqi have to decide what
they
want to do -- nothing I can do about it".
When he went to "war" even Democrats remembered that Daddy
Bush was smart enough to avoid the quagmire of all the simmering
cultural and religious divisions in Iraq. After all Kid Bush was
telling
the Iraqi the same thing the British told then nearly a century ago
about "bringing them democracy"........

Hasn't that already been done? We already did that with Clinton. Man,
this guy is sure behind the times.
"This guy" has 3.9 million listeners each week and a major motion picture
currently being released, devoted to him and his program.
He is hardly behind the times.
In contrast, you----who have little or no audience in your life---are completely
out of touch with how the majority of American people and the world at large
feel about this current sitting U.S. president, his corruption, his failure to
lead or protect, and his dirty little trumped up war.

He is hardly behind the times.
I guess, having a public radio spot, does not necessarily give you
wisdom, does it? Or brains for that matter.

BLAH, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH...I heard all this ***** before. Do
something about it, next election and stop bitching and whining. That's
all you can do.

Another Franklin? As in Benjamin? Or are you misspelling again?
He is hardly behind the times.
I guess, having a public radio spot, does not necessarily give you

Having two hours weekly that has drawn millions of listeners for over 30 years
means you must have wisdom, wit, and brains that generations of Americans
appreciate. His works will be listened to, read, and treasured for generations
long after you and Rush Limbaugh are dead and gone.

And how many listeners/readers is it you have weekly again? When is our
multi-million dollar movie coming out? Who pays their hard-earned money for
your wit and wisdom?
