Impeachment time ? Resignation is a more reasonable solution. |
RE; It's impeachment time...
However, impeachment is highly unlikely and would be very messy.
Resignation is a more reasonable solution. And, the pressure to resign
should come from the GOP members of the US Senate.who are up for
reelection in 2008. One problem, according to some people: Cheney
would become president which would be worse than Bush. If Bush and
Cheney both resign, Pelosi would become president and that would never
be tolerated.
How could resignation work in the interest of the GOP candidates
running for the high office in 2008? Cheney resign first and have
Bush appoint the new VP. Next: Bush resign and the new VP becomes top
hog who can now appoint his VP. This would eliminate Pelosi from the
scene and give the new GOP president time to forget Bush and appeal,
hopefully, to the 2008 voters.
Isn't that the way it worked when Nixon resigned?
Ford was the first person appointed to the vice presidency under the
terms of the 25th Amendment. Upon succession to the presidency, Ford
became the only person to hold that office without having been elected
either President or Vice President. On October 10, 1973, Vice
President Spiro Agnew resigned. According to The New York Times,
"Nixon sought advice from senior Congressional leaders about a
replacement. The advice was unanimous.
Ford was nominated to take Agnew's position on October 12, the first
time the vice-presidential vacancy provision of the 25th Amendment had
been implemented. The United States Senate voted 92 to 3 to confirm
Ford on November 27, and on December 6, the House confirmed him 387
to
35.
When Nixon resigned in the wake of the Watergate scandal on August 9,
1974, Ford assumed the presidency. On August 20 Ford nominated former
New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller to fill the vice presidency he
had vacated. Rockefeller was confirmed by the House and Senate.
Cheney is not well and could drop dead or resign any minute anyhow.
And Bush is on shaky ground. The scene is set to clean house and save
face for 2008. and at the same time avoid the Democrats investigations
and hearings from now until the election in 08. The question: Who
would be the likely candidate to replace the Halliburton *****,
Cheney? This person would become president as soon as Bush bowed out.
So, the brains in the GOP would want him to be someone electable in
the next presidential election.
Democratic nominee and former Georgia governor Jimmy Carter campaigned
as an outsider and reformer; he gained support from voters dismayed by
the Watergate scandal. Carter led consistently in the polls, and Ford
was never able to shake voter dissatisfaction following Watergate and
the Nixon pardon. In the end, Carter won the 1976 election. Had Ford
won the election, he would have been disqualified by the 22nd
Amendment from running in 1980, since he served more than 2 years of
Nixon's term.
Who would be your choice to replace Cheney? Remember he would no
doubt be the GOP candidate in 2008.

Nonsense, the best solution is for President George Bush and Vice President
Richard Cheney to finish the terms to which they have twice been
legitimately elected. Now go away.
