impertinent Question # 118 |
Now that we know that the Pentagon gives top secret security clearance to
certain favored reporters whose copy is sure to be favorable to the Pentagon
and the White House, wouldn't it be great to know what OTHER reporters have
such clearance ? And why should ANYONE buy a news paper which does NOT have
a reporter with a top secret clearance ? By what authority does the
government create two classes of reporters : those who have such clearance
and those who don't ? Isn't the power to grant special favors to some
reporters and withhold it from others the same as the power to destroy ALL
news gathering services ? Finally, more so than the question of who leaked
the name of Valerie Plame as a CIA officer, doesn't this call for some
serious congressional investigation ? Even though Rumsfeld has chosen this
moment to be out of the country ?

Well, for starters, the law against carrying out propaganda efforts
against the US. Of course an investigation would have as its goal
disclosure of details concerning this and other possible law
violations. High crimes and misdemeanors, I believe the lawyers call
it.
Have a nice day. B.
