Impertinent Question # 124 |
If the US government holds a suspect in secret without charges
and without bringing him to trial, the prosecutor would be challenged
in court and would undoubtedly lose and be forced by law to give up the
prisoner. Habeus Corpus is probably the rock bottom foundation of our
ENTIRE criminal justice system. Why then should the government be
immune from legal challenge when they do EXACTLY the same thing outside
the continental US ? What other motive can there be if not to try to
avoid a legal challenge ? And why is this government constantly
involved in things which make Americans ashamed of themselves and
ashamed of their country ? We never sank this low during the entire
cold war struggle against a real enemy and the largest nation on earth.

Military law is different from normal criminal law. For instance, if I run
down the street killing people here in Texas, I would be locked up. But if
I am in the military in Iraq and I am ordered during battle to run down the
street killing people, I would not be guilty of a crime.
You should be proud of what we have accomplished in Iraq: we removed a
genocidal dictator, removed the threat of WMD, freed 12 million Iraqis, and
established a constitutional democracy in the middle east.

Proud ? Proud of a country that attacks another nation which has
never attacked us ? Proud of a country which tortures helpless prisoners ?
Proud of a country which hides prisoners in secret jails to avoid the
legitimate oversight of Congress ? Proud of the blizzard of lies that were
used to justify our attack ? Sorry, This is not the country that I knew
and loved. You ought to be hanging your head in shame over what we've
turned into. And yet, I can't blame you. It's the dumb clod in the White
House who is guilty. Guilty, first and foremost, of knowing nothing about
the proud history and traditions of this country, and what it was justly
proud of. Before he dragged our country through the mud.

We attacked Iraq for many reasons. True, they did not attack us, but they
broke their treaty from Gulf War I, they violated UNSR 1441, they were
working to obtain chemical, biological and nuclear weapons, which they may
have given to terrorists they were cooperating with, and Hussein was a
genocidal dictator.

We attacked Iraq for many reasons. True, they did not attack us, but they

So what ? Israel has broken more UN resolutions than any country on earth.
Why the double standard ?
they were working to obtain chemical, biological and nuclear weapons,
which they may have given to terrorists.....
And they MAY have not been working to obtain them and may have NOT have
given them to anyone. MAY HAVE is not a justification for war. MAY HAVE
is merely a justification seized upon AFTER the decision had been made to go
to war. Just as the weapons of mass destruction were seized upon for the
same reason AFTER that decision had been made. And it's this attempt at
justifying the war that has destroyed the credibility of this government and
this president who pledged to return honesty and integrity to the White
House after Clinton has disgraced himself and the house he lived in.
and Hussein was a genocidal dictator.
There are over 200 member nations represented in the UN. Genocidal
dictators are easy to find. But we are NOT the world's policeman despite
the efforts of Wolfoitz, Feith, Libby and Perle to assign that role to us.
It is NOT our job to take out genocidal dictators. It is NOT our job to
right every wrong, solve every problem or correct every injustice in this
world. It's a very imperfect world and it always will be. Bush's statement
that we will keep on fighting till evil is eliminated from the world is
stupid and sophomoric. Admit it, Taylor !
Proud of a country which tortures helpless prisoners ?
Our country did not torture helpless prisoners, certain soldiers did, and
they are in jail.
Suggesting the idea of torture originated with a few grunts on the
ground is the absolute peak of irresponsible leadership. The memos and
discussions and green lights were flashing all over Executive branch from
the Justice Department to the Office of the Vice President to the Oval
Office
itself ! And the message went out loud and clear: " They are NOT
to be treated as POWs." "The Geneva convention does NOT apply." Just
within the week the Vice President took the lead in OPPOSING a
congressional resolution against torture Any one who says that the
torture was not condoned by colonels and captains and lieutenants in the
field is a liar or a fool, and everyone knows it. And now everyone knows
that this president is a two faced jerk with the manners and morals of a
thug !
Proud of a country which hides prisoners in secret jails to avoid the
legitimate oversight of Congress ?

Not yet. But the Pentagon refused to deny it and the European
Union has opened a formal investigation into the charges. The Red Cross has
asked for access but the Pentagon is stonewalling. A simple denial by the
government would have put it to rest. But some lies are too dangerous to
utter when the facts may quickly reveal the lie and the liar. . And it's
this kind of shabby bobbing and weaving that has destroyed the
administration's integrity in the eyes of Americans and foreigners alike.
Bush prattles on about bringing democratic government to the mid east.
While he gets in bed with the Saudi princes, with Mushshareff in Pakistan ,
with Mubarak in Egypt and other even less savory figures. Do you think a
single Muslim in the world believes one word that he utters? I don't.

That's a lie and you know that. What kind of work they've done to obtaing
those weapons? What weapons? When? Where from? Also, Saddam executed all
real, suspected and potential terrorists long before we've invaded Iraq and
he never cooperated with them in any way. Lying will not change the history.
The history is already set in stone, forever.

Our country did not torture helpless prisoners, certain soldiers did, and

Our country did and does torture prisoners in secret CIA prisons all over
the world. Just watch the news, or read them on the Net. The new Christian
Holy Inquisition is in full swing.
Just a few links for teens like you who don't know how to search the Net on
