Object: Impertinent Question # 137
The Zionist/ Neocon war mongers have seized upon the phrase
"Cutting and Running" to demonize anyone who dares to suggest that
we should be planning our exit strategy from the Mid East. But
isn't cutting and running an excellent idea when staying and dying
needlessly is the alternative ? Wasn't cutting and running an
excellent idea after 20,000 Americans had died in Vietnam instead of
"staying the course" and waiting until the number had reached
40,000 and then 50,000 ?

Well, the opposition to the policy says "war on false pretexts" so both
sides to the issue have something to say...
But in a staying or leaving debate there is no mention of fundamentals. In
other words what are the U.S. troops doing ? Now suppose they are supplying
cities with convoys where the economy and logistics of the society have
collapsed. Now suppose the insurgents are trying to stop the supply lines to
their own hometowns...This is like throwing money at bullets...but it's a
humanitarian crisis not to take care of a society occupied in a war.
So I'm suggesting that the Iraq policy is not concentric to regional
fundamentals...What would have worked ? Well, the northern and southern
no-fly zones could have been fortified and thus the Kurds and Shiites
liberated. The Sunni would have been left alone but would have lost their
oil fields. Then the Sunni would have to be given oil or foreign aid
stipends and then supply their own society.
How does this suggestion work with current fundamentals ? Well, the Sunni
politicians oppose something like statehood so as not to loose geographical
claim...but satisfying the Sunni politicians does not affect the Sunni
insurgency.
Finally, those that say withdraw know of humanitarian concerns and may
simply be looking for UN and Western Europe involvement in exchange for less
policy influence from the U.S. ... But here as well it's difficult to
visualize anything but fortification of Kurd and Shiite regions...

We have an exit strategy. When the Iraqis can take control of security, we
will pull out. "Cutting and running" means pulling out before the job is
done.
