Object: Impertinent Question # Fifty Six
Have I missed something ? News Week publishes a story which prompts
an explosion of hatred for the US. Then it says it can't validate the
story and retracts it. Why has the issue degenerated into a discussion of
whether in fact the story was true? Who cares whether it was true ? You
don't put a weapon in the hands of your enemy which allows him to rally his
forces, strengthen his determination, and allows him to recruit massive
new forces determined to destroy you. Are the Newsweek supporters saying
it's OK provided the story meets a litmus test for truth, but would be
unconscionable if it were false ? If it damages US interests and puts
American forces at greater risk, isn't it treasonous to publish it
REGARDLESS of whether it's true or false ? Why are we letting the question
of truth or falsity become the issue when the REAL issue is whether it is
treasonous or not treasonous ?
