Why are three US Presidents paying their last respects to Pope John Paul
II ? This was a man who spent his time travelling the world gathering
applause cheers and whistles at a time which cried out for leadership
guidance and discipline in the Church. Things which he totally failed to
provide. Yes, he stood in the right place to observe the inevitable
collapse of Communism. He also stood by and did nothing while the Catholic
Church in America edged to the brink of disaster. Never in Church history
were US Catholics so torn by dissension, bitterness and disgust at the way
the church was drifting. American Catholics will learn to survive without
John Paul. It's how US Catholics managed to survive WITH him which remains a
mystery.
