Impertinent Question # Fourteen |
Instead of throwing food out the doors of helicopters wouldn't it be
more appropriate to distribute it on a more humane basis ? What's wrong
with asking the people to form up in three lines: 1. Aged and infirm .
2. Women with children 3. All others ? These people may be destitute but
they're still human beings. NOT farm animals. Having a chance to
re-establish US credibility in the Muslim world, why throw it away ?

Doug Says: We could provide every Muslim in the world with free
food, free housing and such and the Muslim Clerics would still
steal half of it and claim the other half came from them. We are
doing nothing but feeding the war lords, and providing yet
another way for the Mullahs to control their people. The Muslim
Clerics are controlling the distribution of the food and that is
why we are delivering it directly, much to their chagrin.

By doing that, you are assigning higher priority to the elderly, and are
telling the children to go punt. How "humane" is THAT??

Not at all. It merely insures that everyone -not merely the young bully
boys- get some food.

Mainly because they rush the copters before the blades stop spinning,
creating possible safety problems, and they mob the copter crew to
get at the supplies, endangering their lives.

The focus of the disaster was the vast island nation of Indonesia. The
reference books list the population breakdown as follows: Muslim: 87%,
Christian: 10%, Hindu: 2%, Buddhism: 1%. Your attitude of contempt
for the non white natives of Asia creates a self fulfilling prophecy of
anti -American hatred. People react in kind to this sort of mindless
prejudice and bigotry.
Have a nice day. BMc.

So? The idea is to distribute 1 ton of food per day instead of 100
tons?

Presumably the food is being delivered to relatively small and isolated
communities of people, not animals. The purpose is to get water and food to
them as quickly as possible. If they need policing to share amongst
themselves, that says something else about their society.

When dealing with groups of thirsty starving people, who don't know when or
even if more aid will arrive, you tend to get concentric rings. It is the
nature of the beast, survival of the fittest comes into play. It is even
more prevalent when supplies are thrown from a hovering helicopter, rather
than delivered by a ground party. Calling out from a chopper "form up in
three rows" in English is never going to work. The sharing comes after,
once the distribution is made. The young men are likely there trying to get
food etc for their whole extended family, including women, children and the
aged.
