In Case You Thought Google News Was Unbiased... |
....And that is the implication they make, with their tagline thus:
"The selection and placement of stories on this page were determined
automatically by a computer program."
But yesterday, for instance, Israel killed 5 Palestinians and Google
News did not carry the story. Today (right now in fact) their lead
headline is "Palestinian Attacks Jewish Settlement" and the kill count
is two.
So, clearly, Google News is no less biased than any other U.S. media
source, but even the New York Times managed to carry both stories.
Implying that Google is *more* biased than the standard. Oh well.

Translation - it doesn't follow your prejudices therefore it's biased.

Not necessarily true. Google, like most search engines, "rate" links based
on the number of references and links it finds to the page on *other*
pages and newsgroups. If there are, say, 100,000 links and references to
one story and only 10,000 links and references to a second story, the
first story will come up first every single time while the second will be
relegated to further down the list.

They are a search engine, anyone who uses google for anything else (you for
example) is an idiot.

I don't know what criteria Google uses to select its headlines, but most
likely it's done by what's appearing in major ENGLISH language news
sources. My guess, Google just reflects the english language media.
