Here's a fragment of an inbound email I got:

Yes, indeed that is the case. When Ronald Reagan was shot
by John Hinkley, I sent a note to Reagan telling him to:
1) Not duck so fast next time, and
2) Keep fucking Jodie Foster.
The White House sent a card back to me, on 60 pound embossed
cardboard, thanking me for my concern and telling me that
my "kind thoughts and prayers" would aid in Brady's and
Reagan's recovery. I still have the card.
