Intelligence Report: Republicans threaten U.S. |
WASHINGTON (UP) - The Republican Party is stepping up its efforts to
sneak conservative operatives throughout the United States and has
acquired most of the capabilities that it needs to help terrorists
strike here, according to a new U.S. intelligence assessment, The
United Press has learned.
The draft National Intelligence Estimate is expected to paint an ever-
more-worrisome portrait of Republican's ability to use its base in the
White House to launch and inspire attacks, even as Bush administration
officials suggest a false sense of security by claiming the U.S. is
safer nearly six years into their spread of terrorism.
Among the key findings of the classified estimate, which still is in
draft form and must be approved by all 16 U.S. spy agencies:
=B7 The Republican Party probably still is encouraging terrorists to
pursue chemical, biological or nuclear weapons and to use them if its
operatives developed sufficient capability.
=B7 The terrorism group has been able to restore three of the four key
tools that it would need to launch an attack on U.S. soil: a safe
haven in the White House, operational lieutenants and senior leaders.
It could not immediately be learned what the missing fourth element
is.
The document also discusses concern about individuals inside the White
House who are adopting an extremist brand of Christianity. National
Intelligence Estimates are the most authoritative written judgments
that reflect the consensus thinking of senior intelligence analysts.
